To treat infants and young children whose spirit is exhausted and strength depleted due to vomiting and diarrhea, on the verge of developing into slow convulsive disease (Man Jing Feng).
Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn, sliced, two liang) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, two liang, boiled in water) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, half liang, honey-fried) Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, aged ones are better, pith removed, one fen)
The above ingredients are ground into powder. Each dose is one qian, decocted with a small cup of water, along with Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), for three to five boils. Take orally at any time without restriction.
Commentary: This formula treats infants and young children whose spirit is exhausted and strength depleted due to vomiting and diarrhea, on the verge of developing into slow spleen wind syndrome. This is precisely an emergency rescue that cannot be delayed. If the condition has already transmitted, it manifests as wind, heat, phlegm, and fright interacting with each other, causing the spirit to scatter and become unstable, leading to upward staring and convulsions. All these are caused by Spleen deficiency. Once the Spleen meridian is deficient, the Stomach qi subsequently becomes deficient. The herbs in this formula use Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) and Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) to pre-emptively regulate the Spleen and Stomach; Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn) clears heat and dispels wind-heat. Once the heat is eliminated, phlegm has no source to generate, thereby awakening the Spleen and strengthening the Stomach. How can wind gradually arise? Upon seeing the child recover consciousness, simultaneously administer Xingpi San (Spleen-Awakening Powder) and Ji Ji Dan (Ji-Ji Pill) alternately until full recovery is achieved, which is optimal. This formula completely avoids using drugs that purge wind or resolve phlegm because, since the syndrome is about to develop into slow convulsive disease, it is inappropriate to first administer harsh medicines. Thus, this formula is termed a "harmonizing agent" (He Ji) to rectify Spleen qi and prevent transmission, requiring no arduous treatment. It is simple, direct, and subtle. Bowing to the wisdom of its creator, its application brings benefit to all.
To treat infants and young children with incessant vomiting and diarrhea, where phlegm induces convulsive disease, the Spleen is trapped, resulting in lethargy, silence, and loss of appetite. Formula for Xingpi San (Spleen-Awakening Powder).
Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, processed, one liang) Quanxie (Scorpio, stir-fried, half liang) Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, stir-fried, one liang) Renshen (Ginseng Radix, one fen) BaiFuling (Poria, one liang) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried, one liang) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, one liang) Baijiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, stir-fried, one liang) BaiFuzi (Typhonii Rhizoma Praeparatum, processed, one liang)
The above ingredients are ground into powder. Each dose is half a qian. For older children, add a little water and decoct together with Zaozi (Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus) for five to seven boils. Take orally at any time without restriction.
Commentary: This is an excellent and superior formula. In infants and young children, vomiting and diarrhea cause Spleen deficiency, leading to acute convulsive disease. The spirit is exhausted, qi is weak, and the demeanor is lethargic and silent. This is due to Spleen meridian deficiency and exhaustion, resulting in the accumulation of wind-phlegm, hence the lack of clarity. It is advisable to administer frequently. Still combine with Ji Ji Dan (Ji-Ji Pill) and Guanyin Quanxie San (Guanyin Scorpion Powder), both of which are effective. If the symptoms include牵引 convulsions, do not administer Jingfeng Wan/San (Convulsion Pills/Powders) or cold-natured medicines containing Nao (Camphora) and She (Moschus). Otherwise, the condition will worsen, and the syndrome will intensify. Not only will the convulsions not subside, but phlegm-heat will exacerbate them, causing the disease to transmit. Transmission leads to slow spleen wind, for which there are still formulas to treat; however, if it reaches Yin reversal (Yin Ni), it is incurable. "Yin" refers to the impending extinction of Yang qi; "Ni" refers to the adverse nature of the received pathogen. If adverse and nearing extinction, only sighs remain, leaving one helpless. How can such a life-saving good formula be concealed? (Truly a drink that saves lives.)
