Yuanrong Siwu Decoction: Treats leukorrhea (vaginal discharge) of red and white color in women, with a deep and faint pulse, abdominal pain, or pain in the vagina.
Siwu Decoction (4 qian), Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) (each 5 fen, processed).
The above herbs are cut into pieces. Decoct in water and take before meals. (Previous formulas often add warm and dry substances to Qi-regulating herbs; this formula adds Guizhi and Fuzi to Blood-nourishing herbs. One must understand the difference by exploring the pulse and symptoms. Generally, diseases differ between Qi and Blood disorders, so physicians formulate according to specific circumstances.) Another version: Siwu Decoction plus Muxiang (Aucklandia Root) and Guizhi.
Yuxian San: Treats leukorrhea of red and white color.
Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) (baked until yellow), Baishao (White Peony Root) (stir-fried), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) (stir-fried until charred, each 1 liang), Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root) (5 qian).
The above are ground into fine powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with water and white wine. (Using 1 liang of Ganjiang is a large dose and major method; the later formula uses only one-quarter, which is quite different. Both should be emulated.) Another version: Only use Baishao stir-fried with wine (2 liang) and Ganjiang processed (0.5 liang), ground into fine powder, taken with rice drink (2 qian).
Xuanhu Koushen Tang: Treats coldness below the umbilicus, pulling pain, extreme cold in the genital area, and leukorrhea.
Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma), Koushenzi (Melia Toosendan Seed) (each 2 fen), Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark) (1 fen), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) (each 3 fen), Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) (5 fen), Shudihuang (Prepared Rehmannia Root) (1 qian).
Take as one dose, decoct in water, and take warm before meals. (Yanhusuo and Koushenzi treat pain; Rougui and Fuzi warm and dispel cold; Shudihuang treats deficiency below the umbilicus; Huangbai follows its natural preference.)
Guifu Tang: Treats leukorrhea with a fishy odor, frequent sadness and unhappiness, and extreme cold.
Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) (1 qian), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) (3 qian), Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark), Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizoma) (each 5 fen).
Take as one dose, decoct in water, and take hot after meals. If appetite is low but one feels full, or if there is occasional abdominal distension, add Baishao (White Peony Root) 0.5 qian. If there is no desire for food, add Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry) 20 fruits. (Frequent sadness and unhappiness indicate Yin obscurity. Thus, Guizhi and Fuzi should be used to assist Yang; when Yang is harmonious, sadness ceases and joy arises. Using small amounts of Zhimu and Huangbai as "following treatment" prevents Guizhi and Fuzi from being too harsh, also reflecting the principle of "using heat far from heat." Why add Baishao for low appetite resembling distension? Why add Wuweizi for loss of appetite? Reflect on this.) If there is irritability and facial numbness like insects crawling, this indicates extreme deficiency of Yuanqi (Original Qi) in the Stomach. Add Huangqi (Astragalus Root) 1 qian, Renshen (Ginseng Root) 7 fen, Gancao (Licorice Root) 2 fen, and Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome) 5 fen. This tonifies extreme deficiency of Yang Qi; Huangbai etc. serve as guiding herbs and regulate the ascending and descending of Yin and Yang.
Danggui Fuzi Tang: Treats cold pain below the umbilicus and leukorrhea of red and white color.
Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) (2 qian), Liangjiang (Galangal Rhizome), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) (each 1 qian), Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) (7 fen), Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome), Xieshao (Scorpion Tail) (each 5 fen), Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) (6 fen), Chao Huangyan (Stir-fried Yellow Salt) (3 fen), Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark) (a little).
Grind into coarse powder. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct in water, and take warm. Pills are also acceptable. (Liangjiang and Ganjiang greatly treat cold pain below the umbilicus; Salt and Huangbai guide the action downward; Xieshao reaches the site of pain directly; Shengma and Chaihu guide clear Qi upward from left and right; Salt and Huangbai guide turbid Yin downward.) Dongyuan's note on Huiyang Dan states: Must use stir-fried yellow salt; without it, it is ineffective. It is an essential herb for treating cold hernia.
Jiuzhu Danggui Wan: Treats hernia, leukorrhea flowing down, jiaoxie (foot disease), feeling as if in ice and snow below the waist, still cold even sitting on a heated kang covered with thick clothes, uncontrollable urination, continuous leukorrhea that cannot be controlled, emaciation, pale face with blue eyes, blurred vision, heaviness of the body like a mountain, unsteady gait, withered and thin legs and knees, constipation, epigastric stuffiness, vexation, inability to eat, dirty face and cold back, urinary incontinence without awareness. This indicates exhaustion of True Qi in the Upper, Middle, and Lower Yang channels, hence incessant hiccups and vomiting, indicating extreme Stomach cold. The pulse is deep, tight, and choppy, empty upon pressure. If the pulse is surging, large, and choppy, yet weak upon pressure, it is still a Zhonghan (Middle Jiao Cold) pattern; how much more so if empty upon pressure? If non-pulsating upon pressure, it is extreme Yin cold; emptiness indicates extreme deficiency of both Qi and Blood. (Dai Mai (Girdle Vessel) disease causes seven types of hernia in men and masses in women. Is hernia in women the same as in men? I have heard that when a woman's form protrudes from the vagina like an eggplant, it is also considered hernia, hence the statement. All symptoms are cold, except constipation, epigastric stuffiness, and vexation which resemble heat. A tight pulse is always considered cold regardless of floating or sinking; non-pulsating upon pressure is always considered deficiency regardless of size. Physicians must recognize this. Although it says Qi and Blood are both deficient, this formula contains no Qi-tonifying herbs, and only one Blood-nourishing herb, Danggui. Does this mean when True Yang is exhausted, even sweet and warm herbs are ineffective? Shaoyao (Peony) and Dihuang (Rehmannia) can stagnate Yang Qi, hence they are not used.)
Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) (1 liang), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root) (0.5 liang), Hei Fuzi (Black Prepared Aconite Root) (processed, skin and core removed), Liangjiang (Galangal Rhizome) (each 7 qian).
Cut the above four herbs into pieces the size of hemp seeds. Decoct together with 1.5 sheng of good wine until the wine is consumed. Dry over charcoal fire and grind into fine powder. Add the following herbs:
Chao Huangyan (Stir-fried Yellow Salt), Dingxiang (Clove Bud) (each 0.5 liang), Quanxie (Whole Scorpion) (3 qian), Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) (2 qian), Shengmagen (Cimicifuga Root), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root) (each 1 qian), Koushenzi (Melia Toosendan Seed), Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) (each 5 fen), Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma) (4 qian).
Grind all into fine powder. Boil in wine, mix with flour paste to make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills per dose on an empty stomach after residual food has digested, washed down with light vinegar soup. Avoid greasy, cold foods, alcohol, and wheat products. (The brilliance lies in boiling the first four herbs in wine and using wine paste for pills, strongly tonifying the lower part to generate True Yang Qi from the deepest abyss to the highest heaven. The latter nine herbs either guide downward or assist upward, possessing the subtlety of opening knots and penetrating barriers. Only those who thoroughly understand disease origins and study materia medica can achieve this! However, its power is vast, and only skilled practitioners dare use it.)
Nuangong Miaoying Wan: Treats leukorrhea of red and white color in women, and infertility due to uterine deficiency-cold.
Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root), Chuanxiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome), Baishao (White Peony Root), Shudihuang (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Aiye (Mugwort Leaf), Fuling (Poria), Longgu (Fossilized Bones), Mudanpi (Tree Peony Bark), Chishizhi (Red Kaolin), Muli (Oyster Shell) (equal parts).
Grind into powder, mix with flour paste to make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 50 pills per dose on an empty stomach with Aiye (Mugwort Leaf) vinegar soup. (This formula combines Siwu Decoction, uses Aiye to warm the lower part, Fuling to drain dampness, and Mudanpi to clear stasis. It is suitable for warming the uterus to facilitate conception.)
Hetou Wan: Treats three types of leukorrhea (among the Thirty-Six Diseases):
1. Unmarried girls: Leukorrhea occurs immediately after the onset of menstruation, caused by bathing in cold water, exposure to heat and fans, or wind exposure.
2. Married women: Excessive sexual activity damages the Bao Luo (Uterine Collaterals); Wind-Cold enters through deficiency, chilling the Bao Jing (Uterine Meridian), forming foul fluid that mixes with blood and water to flow down.
3. Postpartum leukorrhea: Caused by blood loss and Qi depletion damaging the Bao Luo; the aperture opens allowing external Wind to invade; the body is weak allowing Cold Wind to enter. Cold Wind mixes with Heat Qi to form fluid. Cold leads to white discharge; Heat leads to red discharge; Cold and Heat mixing leads to both red and white discharge.
Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) (7.5 qian, soaked in wine), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) (processed, skin removed, 0.5 liang), Longgu (Fossilized Bones) (wrapped in salt mud and calcined), Wuzhuyu (Evodia Fruit) (soaked in soup, saliva removed), Chishizhi (Red Kaolin) (calcined, quenched in vinegar), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) (processed, each 0.5 liang), Muli (Oyster Shell) (1.2 liang, wrapped in salt mud and calcined), Aiye (Mugwort Leaf) (1 liang, boiled dry with half a cup of vinegar).
Grind into fine powder, mix evenly, bind with vinegar paste into pills the size of paulownia seeds, coat with Chishizhi. Take 50 pills per dose on an empty stomach with soup made from Aiye (Mugwort Leaf), table salt, and Wumei (Chinese Plum). (This is a strong heating formula; do not use unless there is true cold.)
Bailian Wan: Treats unmarried girls with Chong Ren (Penetrating and Conception Vessels) deficiency-cold, presenting with pure white leukorrhea. (Girls reach menarche at age fourteen, a time of vigorous Qi. How can one lightly use warm-hot formulas? Inferring from "pure white," we identify true deficiency-cold, thus Lu Rong (Deer Antler) can be used.)
Lu Rong (Deer Antler) (wine-steamed, baked, 2 liang), Bailian (Belamcanda Rhizome), Gouji (Cibotium Rhizome) (scraped to remove hair, each 1 liang).
Grind into fine powder. Make pills with Aiye (Mugwort Leaf) decoction and vinegar juice paste, size of paulownia seeds. Take 50 pills per dose on an empty stomach with warm wine.
Shenxian Jubao Dan (Also known as Hupo Zhusha Wan): Treats deficiency-cold of the Xue Hai (Sea of Blood) in women, compounded by external Wind-Cold, knotting and accumulating into masses. (The Classics state: Qi disorders cause movement issues; Blood disorders result from them. Here, the disease starts with Xue Hai deficiency-cold, so Qi cannot warm; combined with external Wind-Cold, Blood congeals and cannot disperse. It requires warming and moving. Thus, this formula moves Qi within Blood and Blood within Qi. When Qi moves and Blood flows, there is no disease.) It may form hard masses, or Blood-Qi attacking and flooding causing abdominal and hypochondriac pain, urgent and distended urination, or false borborygmi, vomiting of salivary foam, dizziness, blurred vision, heavy and painful legs and knees, sallow complexion, edema of limbs, menstrual irregularities preceding severe illness, varying amounts, red and white leukorrhea, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, fright, amnesia, frequent or white urination, occasional deficiency-heat and night sweats, emaciation. This medicine treats all cases regardless of prenatal, postnatal, or unmarried status. Regular use calms the mind, expels evil, eliminates stale blood, nourishes new blood, and enables conception.
Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root), Hupo (Amber), Moyao (Myrrh) (each 1 liang), Diluxiang (Frankincense Resin) (2.5 qian), Shexiang (Musk), Chen Sha (Cinnabar) (each 1 qian).
Grind each separately into fine powder, mix well, and make water pills the size of longan seeds. Take one pill per dose, dissolved in warm wine, at any time. For difficult labor or abdominal pain during pregnancy, dissolve in child's urine. For postpartum blood syncope, stale blood rushing to the heart, locked jaw, stiff tongue, or incomplete lochia with thirst and facial edema, dissolve in Wumei (Chinese Plum) soup mixed with child's urine. For unmarried girls with irregular menstruation, dissolve half a pill in warm wine. For postpartum Blood-Qi disharmony, dissolve in child's urine.
Zhuyu Yu Tang: Treats deficiency-cold of the Lower Jiao, umbilical and abdominal pain, five-color leukorrhea, metrorrhagia, and continuous dripping.
Wuzhuyu (Evodia Fruit) (soaked in soup), Duzhong (Eucommia Bark) (stir-fried to remove silk threads), Chuangzi (Cnidium Fruit), Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry), Dingpi (Cloves Skin) (each 1 liang), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root), Dingxiang (Clove Bud) (each 0.5 liang).
Cut into pieces the size of hemp seeds. Use 0.5 liang per dose, place in a raw silk bag, decoct in three bowls of water for a few boils. While hot, fumigate and wash the lower part, showering with hands. Do this twice daily, morning and evening. (These formulas from Zhuyu Yu Tang downwards are all external treatments, suitable for patterns of upper heat and lower cold where warm-tonifying medicines are difficult to take. They use human effort to restore nature, though rarely known today. Some patients cannot speak, and doctors have no way to respond, leaving them to wait for death.)
Zuoyao Longyan Gao: Treats leukorrhea.

Grind into fine powder. Form into pills the size of fingertips according to the previous method. Wrap in cotton cloth, insert into the vagina. Warmth felt below the umbilicus indicates efficacy.
Rusheng Dan: Treats irregular menstruation and leukorrhea of red and white color in women.
Kufan (Alum) (4 liang), Chuangzi (Cnidium Fruit) (2 liang).
Grind into powder, bind with vinegar into pills the size of bullets, coat with rouge. Wrap in cotton cloth and place in the vagina. Sit quietly for half a day; change again if extremely hot. Generally, amenorrhea and red/white leukorrhea are often due to uterine impurity; oral medication is difficult to be effective. Local application is easier to cure, acts quickly, and does not damage Zang Qi. Another version: Equal parts Kufan (Alum) and Chuanwu (Sichuan Aconite Root), bind with refined honey into pills the size of bullets, wrap in cotton cloth, insert into the vagina to treat leukorrhea and sterility.
