Huaji Wan (Accumulation-Dissolving Pill): Treats women with dead blood (stasis), food accumulation, and phlegm-fluid retention forming masses in both hypochondriac regions. Symptoms include borborygmus during movement, epigastric discomfort with dizziness, fever, and symptoms that come and go intermittently.
Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) (1 liang 5 qian, stir-fried with half the amount of Evodiae Fructus and Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus, then remove Evodiae Fructus and Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus) Radish Seed (Luobozhi) Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu) Crataegi Fructus (Shanzha) (each 1 liang)
Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong) Gardeniae Jasminoidis Fructus (Shanzhi) (stir-fried) Sparganii Rhizoma (Sanleng) (roasted and sliced) Massao Fungus (Shenqu) (stir-fried) Persicae Semen (Taoren) (skin and tip removed, each 5 qian)
Grind all ingredients into fine powder, make pills using steamed wheat cake paste, and take orally. (This is the method of Master Zhu Danxi. Ancient prescriptions mostly contain aromatic, drying, warm, and hot substances, which may inadvertently assist fire and damage qi. This prescription uses Evodiae Fructus to restrain Coptidis Rhizoma to treat left-sided conditions, and Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus to restrain Coptidis Rhizoma to treat right-sided conditions. Gardeniae Jasminoidis Fructus clears heat within the masses. The remaining herbs break qi stagnation, digest food, and dispel blood stasis; indeed, these are steady and appropriate medicines.)
Xiao Sanleng Jian Wan (Minor Sparganium Decoction Pill): Treats food accumulation, alcohol-induced mass (jiu pi), blood jia (abdominal masses that move and change), qi masses, frequent stabbing pain, complete loss of appetite, and any unresolving accumulation leading to hardness and distension of the heart and abdomen. It also treats vomiting, belching, and acid regurgitation due to phlegm-fluid retention, stabbing pain in the hypochondrium, and diarrhea caused by rebellious Spleen qi.
Sparganii Rhizoma (Sanleng) Curcumae Rhizoma (Ezhu) (each 4 liang) Genkwa Flos (Yuanhua) (1 liang)
Place all ingredients together in a porcelain vessel, soak fully with 5 sheng of rice vinegar, seal the vessel mouth, and simmer over ash fire until dry. Remove Sparganii Rhizoma and Curcumae Rhizoma. Stir-fry Genkwa Flos with the remaining vinegar until slightly scorched. Dry-roast it together with Sparganii Rhizoma and Curcumae Rhizoma, grind into fine powder, and make pills using vinegar paste, sized like mung beans. Take 15 pills per dose, washed down with Ginger Decoction. For women’s blood-division diseases or men’s rebellious Spleen qi causing diarrhea, swelling, and fullness resembling water retention, wash down with Mulberry Root Bark Decoction (Sangbaipi Jian Tang). (Functions: Promote qi circulation, resolve fluid retention, grind down accumulations.)
Naoshan Wan (Sal Ammoniac Pill): Treats long-standing food accumulation in women that fails to dissipate, leading to emaciation and poor appetite.
Sal Ammoniac (Naosha) Calamine (Qingmengshi) Pangolin Scale (Chuanshanjia) (calcined) Sparganii Rhizoma (Sanleng) (stir-fried) Dried Lacquer (Ganqi) (stir-fried until smoke ceases) Sulfur (Liuhuang) (each half liang) Croton Seed (Badou) (30 seeds, skin and core removed, stir-fried, oil not removed)
Grind all ingredients into fine powder, make pills using soft cooked rice, sized like small beans. Take 5 pills per dose, washed down with Ginger and Tangerine Peel Decoction.
Mengshi Wan (Calamine Pill): Treats food accumulation in women where masses persist for a long time without dissolving, attacking and piercing the heart and abdomen causing pain.
Calamine (Qingmengshi) Croton Seed (Badou) (skin, core, and oil removed) Cinnabar (Zhusha) Calomelas (Fenshuang) (all ground) Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang) (each 2 qian 5 fen) Sal Ammoniac (Naosha) (half liang)
Grind uniformly, mix with glutinous rice drink and rice dough to make pills, sized like mung beans. Take 2 pills per dose, wash down with warm wine on an empty stomach. Continue until foul matter is discharged. The above two prescriptions contain harsh substances such as Sal Ammoniac and Croton Seed. They should not be used lightly unless the Stomach qi is strong and the accumulated qi is stubborn and difficult to resolve, creating a situation where the pathogen and healthy qi cannot coexist.
