If the stool contains yellow foam, with borborygmus and abdominal pain, and the pulse is deep, tight, and rapid, use Wu Ji Wan (Wuji Pill) to harmonize; if there is belching with a putrid odor and an inability to eat, and the stomach pulse is deep and tight, use Gan Ying Wan (Miraculous Response Pill) to purge accumulation, followed by harmonizing the spleen and stomach; if caused by wind-cold, with undigested food resembling bean juice, use Wei Feng Tang (Stomach Wind Decoction); if there is coldness below the umbilicus and yin coldness, with draining diarrhea, use Li Zhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) or Zhi Zhong Tang (Treat the Middle Decoction); if caused by latent summerheat with irritability, thirst, and watery diarrhea, use Si Ling San (Four-Poria Powder); if caused by dampness injury with free urination, use Bu Huan Jin Zheng Qi San (Golden-Substitute Upright Qi Powder) or Wei Ling Tang (Stomach Poria Decoction). The wife of Jinshi Wang Zhengzhi suffered from diarrhea and anorexia with vomiting during pregnancy. I said, "This is an injury to Spleen Qi." Her husband was worried and forced her to drink rice water. I told him, "Rice water can also damage Stomach Qi; do not force it. Wait for the Spleen and Stomach to awaken, and the retained stagnation will resolve naturally, restoring appetite." They did not believe me and used Ren Shen Yang Wei Tang (Ginseng Decoction to Nourish the Stomach) prescribed by another doctor. She vomited sour and bitter water and wanted to take fire-descending cold medicines. I said, "If so, Stomach Qi will be further damaged." The Classic says: "For those injured in the Spleen, regulate their diet and adapt to cold and warmth." Later, without medication, she recovered.
