(She can be decocted into a soup, juiced, or ground into powder. Those that have been exposed to frost should be selected separately for washing the eyes.)
(Zhu Ye [Bamboo Leaf] has other specific uses.)
(Fresh Jin Zhu [Golden Bamboo] is used. Cut sections approximately one chi long, retaining the nodes in the middle and removing them from both ends. Split each section into two halves. The quantity is not restricted. Place two bricks to support the bamboo at both ends, allowing the bamboo ends to extend about two cun beyond the bricks. Place a porcelain dish under each end to collect the dripping liquid. Use intense fire to heat and force the exudation; the liquid will drip from both ends into the dishes, and the bamboo itself will gradually burn until the exudate is fully extracted. The bamboo after extraction can be used as fuel. Place fresh bamboo on the bricks again and repeat the process as needed. Dan Zhu [Light Bamboo], Ku Zhu [Bitter Bamboo], and Ci Zhu [Kind Bamboo] are the only four types whose exudates are usable. Jiang Zhi [Ginger Juice] acts as an adjuvant.)
(Select extremely fresh bamboo, scrape off the skin, and rub away the hard outer green layer. Do not use others; only Dan Zhu [Light Bamboo] and Ku Zhu [Bitter Bamboo] are suitable for medicinal use; the rest are not included in prescriptions.)
(When processing, first remove leaves, seeds, and impurities. Use a large basin and wash with salt water one hundred times until the sticky fluid disappears naturally. Dry it in the sun for use in pills or powders. For ten liang of processing, use two liang of salt ground into powder,投 (throw) into four dou of flowing eastward water, and wash in one hundred portions for special efficacy. If vinegar boiling is used, boil the vinegar more than thirty times before adding Zhu Yu [Evodia Fruit]. When the vinegar is exhausted, dry it. For every ten liang used, limit the vinegar to one yi. Liao Shi [Polygonum Seed] is its adjuvant. It is incompatible with Danshen [Salvia Miltiorrhiza Root], Xiaoshi [Niter], and Baizi Yingshi [White Purple Quartz].)
(When selecting Bing Lang [Areca Seed], choose those with external sitting marks, textures resembling broken flowing water, and internal contents resembling brocade patterns. Those that are half-white and half-black, or hollow in the center, are not used medicinally. Distinguish between Bin (areca nut) and Lang (betel nut): Lang has a round head, short body, and deep-set eyes; Bin has a pointed shape, purple color, and coarse texture. Bin has weaker efficacy, while Lang has stronger efficacy. Before use, scrape off the fine debris from the bottom with a knife. Do not expose to fire, as it may lose efficacy. If processed by cooking, it is better not to use it.)
(When using Zhi Zi [Gardenia Fruit], do not use large grains, known as "Fu Shi" [Hidden Corpse], which lack potency. Select grains the size of a sparrow's brain, preferably with nine distinct red ridges. Remove the skin before use. Select kernels with nine edges. Soak in Gan Cao Shui [Licorice Water] overnight, drain, bake dry, crush, and sun-dry. Generally, for treating the Upper Jiao [Upper Burner] and Middle Jiao [Middle Burner], use with the shell; for the Lower Jiao [Lower Burner], remove the shell. For sinking varieties, remove the yellow pulp and stir-fry. For treating blood disorders, stir-fry until blackened.)
(Do not use Hai Mu Xue [Sea Mother Blood] when seeking Qi Jie [Dragon's Blood Resin]; true Qi Jie merely tastes salty and smells fishy. Qi Jie has a slightly salty and sweet taste, and its aroma resembles Zhi Zi [Gardenia]. Before use, grind into powder and sieve finely. It can be used freely in pills, powders, and ointments. Do not pound it together with other herbs to avoid turning it into flying dust. It works well when combined with Mi Duo Seng [Litharge].)
