(For medicinal use, boil in vegetable brine for twenty rolling boils, then place in cold water, knead and pull dozens of times, and finally dry in the sun.)
(When preparing, soak in decoction, remove the skin and tips, split into two pieces. Boil Rengren (Prunus pendula seed) together with Mangxiao (Mirabilite) and Mutongcao (Akebia Decoction) in water for one fu period (approx. 8 hours). Strain out, discard other herbs, retain only Rengren, grind into a paste, adjust dosage as needed, and add to prescriptions. For every four liang of Rengren processed, use one liang of Mangxiao and seven liang of Mutongcao. Alternatively, remove the husk, wrap in cotton paper, and grind to remove oil.)
(Distinguish between male and female: male grains are small, female grains are large and resemble jujube pits. Prescriptions mostly use females due to stronger efficacy; males are used in ointment decoctions. If using males, remove the bottom cap, as it can induce lactation issues or cause back carbuncles. When added to decoctions, grind into powder and mix in, or add whole and boil for one or two rolling boils before removing. Avoid Yujin (Curcuma aromatica root),忌 fire.)
(Select those that are not withered, with black and moist luster as superior quality. Those hard like horns and sinking to the bottom of water are best; those half-sinking are inferior. When used in powders, add after all other herbs have been processed, mix evenly, and use. When used in decoctions, grind into juice. Avoid fire.)
(Round, small, and bright ones are good. One method is to grind with Dengxincao (Juncus effusus stem), or with a few grains of Nuomi (Glutinous rice), or with 2-3 pieces of human/animal shell, or grind in a mortar placed in hot water, claiming these make it easier to grind fine. However, nothing beats grinding fine, mixing with Renru (Human breast milk), steaming slightly, grinding again until uniform, drying, and grinding into dust-like fineness. Remove from heat when the medicine sinks after one or two boiling periods; do not overcook.)
(Transparent ones are good. Processing method is the same as for Rushiang (Boswellia carterii gum).)
(Boil into an ointment for oral administration, or combine with drug frost. After the Frost Descent solar term, harvest Jinyingzi (Rosa laevigata fruit), quantity unrestricted. Lightly pound coarsely to remove hairs and thorns, wash clean, then pound thoroughly to remove seeds. For about one dou of fruit, use two dou of water, boil for the time it takes to cook a meal, strain, and collect the clear juice. Add fresh water, boil again, strain. Repeat adding water and boiling three times until the dregs are tasteless and pale, then discard. Filter the collected clear juice through fine silk, boil in a clean pot until thick like malt syrup. Store in porcelain jars, cool in cold water overnight before taking. This ointment strongly consolidates essence. The formula "Er Xian Dan" is made by adding Qianshi powder (Euryale ferox seed flour) to this ointment.)
(Self-harvested roots growing eastward into the soil: scrape off yellow coarse skin with a bamboo or copper knife, tear into strips by hand, mix with honey, and roast on tiles. Roots floating on top of the soil are poisonous/deadly. Guixin (Cinnamomum cassia twig), Xuduan (Dipsacus asper root), and Maziren (Cannabis sativa seed) are its guiding herbs. Avoid iron vessels.)
