Feng Luzhan stated: Throat swelling (Throat Swelling) is categorized into Yang toxicity (Yang Du, a condition characterized by heat-toxin accumulation) and Yin toxicity (Yin Du, a condition characterized by cold-toxin accumulation). If the face is red, the pulse is surging (Hong Mai), or pus and blood are vomited, this indicates fire qi rushing upward, with heart and lung receiving heat, termed Yang toxicity; if the four limbs are cold and the pulse is deep and fine (Chen Xi Mai), this indicates cold accumulating in the lung, extreme cold generating heat, and damp-heat steaming, termed Yin toxicity. Treatment for Yang toxicity employs clearing the lung and transforming heat (Qing Fei Hua Re); treatment for Yin toxicity employs guiding fire back to its source (Yin Huo Gui Yuan). (From *Jin Nang*)
