Wind-Stroke with Mouth Deviation: Take one jin (approx. 500g) of distilled liquor, pour it into a small-mouthed bottle and heat it in hot water. Add three kernels of Crotonis Fructus Semen (Badou Ren). If the patient's mouth deviates to the left, have the patient place their right palm over the mouth of the bottle; observe until the mouth returns to normal, then no further fumigation is needed. If the mouth deviates to the right, have the patient place their left palm over the bottle mouth.
Another prescription: Take a reed tube five cun long. Insert one end into the ear canal and seal the surrounding area tightly with flour paste. Place one soybean at the other end. Burn a large moxa cone on the soybean for seven moxibustion units (zhuang) to cure. Treat the right side if the disease is on the left, and treat the left side if the disease is on the right.
Mouth and Eye Deviation: Remove the shells of Ricini Semen (Bimazi), grind them into a paste. Apply to the center of the right palm if the mouth deviates to the left, or to the center of the left palm if it deviates to the right. Simultaneously, hold the palm over a basin of hot water. The deviation will correct shortly; wash off the medicine immediately.
Another prescription: Take seven kernels of Crotonis Fructus Semen (Badou Ren), remove the skins, and grind into a paste. Apply to the center of the right palm if the mouth deviates to the left, or to the center of the left palm if it deviates to the right. Simultaneously, hold the palm over a basin of hot water. The deviation will correct shortly. Frequently pull and stretch the middle finger with the hand.
Another prescription: Mix with water prepared from calcined stone (Duanshi Shi Shui). Apply to the right side if the mouth deviates to the left, or to the left side if it deviates to the right. Wash off once corrected.
Another prescription: Remove the skin and strings from Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus (Zaojia), grind into powder, and mix with aged vinegar for application. Apply to the right side if the mouth deviates to the left, or to the left side if it deviates to the right. Reapply when dry, until the mouth is corrected.
Another prescription: Place one eel inside a bamboo tube. Pierce the deep part of the tail with a needle to draw blood. Spread the eel on soft silk. Apply to the right side if the mouth deviates to the left, or to the left side if it deviates to the right, to correct the deviation. Alternatively, dip double-layered copper coins in eel blood. While hot, drape the blood-soaked thread onto the inner corner of the right mouth for left deviation, pulling along the cheek to tie behind the ear. For right deviation, drape it onto the inner corner of the left mouth to correct.
Another prescription: Decoct Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui) in wine to obtain a thick liquid, and apply with an old cloth.
Jaw Lock (Kou Jin): This is a disease of the Foot-Yangming Meridian, primarily treated by Jiache Acupoint (ST6). The Yangming meridians flank the mouth and encircle the lips, passing through Jiache. All Yang meridians' sinews ascend to the head, and the sinews of the Three Yang meridians interconnect at the jaw and cheeks, flanking the mouth. When wind-cold invades the meridians due to deficiency, the sinews become spasmodic and tight, causing the jaw to lock and the mouth to close tightly. Additionally, excessive wind-heat and phlegm-saliva stagnating in the diaphragm can cause this. Wind pathogen tends to injure the Liver and dries substances, leading to dry, stiff sinews that force the mouth shut. These are all diseases caused by excess pathogens, belonging to the Closed Syndrome of Wind-Stroke. In contrast, in the Collapsing Syndrome, the Qi of all Yang meridians collapses, losing control over the body's constraints, resulting in an open mouth and protruding tongue that cannot be retracted.
Luo Qian'an stated: If an infant does not cry or suckle milk three days after birth, it is called Jaw Lock. This is caused by fetal reception of fire-toxin attacking the Heart and transmitting to the Lung, resulting in inability to take food/milk and silent crying. Administering small amounts of Yanshou Dan continuously will cure it. (From *Tui Na Mi Shu*)
