Fengmei Ju (Phoenix Eyebrow Carbuncle) arises at the glabella, also known as Yintang Ju. It belongs to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, caused by the accumulation and knotting of Wind-Heat pathogenic factors, leading to stagnation of Yin and Yang Qi. Initially, the lesion is dark in color with a flat base, presenting induration, swelling, and pain. If initially red and swollen with pain, it is named Xinmian Du (Glabella Toxin); if black in color, painless, excessively numb and itchy, with a root hard like an iron nail, accompanied by alternating chills and fever, it is termed Xinmian Ding (Glabella Carbuncle). Treatment: Initially, use Wanling Dan to induce sweating; internally administer Jingfang Baidu San. If resolution does not occur, immediately employ Huoming Dan or Huoming Yin to attack and expel toxins. Once pus forms, puncture it, apply Sheng Gao to draw out toxins, and use Shengji San to promote wound healing.
Meifasheng (Eyebrow Hair Growth/Abscess) occurs on the supraorbital ridge, regardless of left or right side, caused by accumulated heat in the Bladder, Small Intestine, Liver, and Gallbladder meridians. Its shape is long like a melon, pain radiating to the brain, with both eyes swollen shut. Induration, redness, and a palpable root indicate a favorable prognosis (Shun) if pus easily forms; failure to form pus indicates an unfavorable prognosis (Ni). If unruptured by the 14th day, accompanied by irritability, vomiting, and inability to eat, it is ominous (Xiong). The treatment method is the same as for the preceding condition. Li Dongyuan stated: At the onset, the Haima Bengdu Method should be used for rescue.
Haima Bengdu Method: For conditions such as Back Carbuncle, Opposite Mouth Carbuncle, and Eyebrow Ju, at the initial stage, wash with hot water from behind the elbow to the starting point of the Hand-Taiyang meridians. Wash dozens of times daily to vent heat toxins, continuing until the washing reaches the depth of the fingernail and flesh. This is because the Three-Yang meridians are all governed by the Governor Vessel (Du Mai); washing to the depth of the nail and flesh ensures that heat is resolved from its root. This is a secret transmission; do not neglect it lightly.
Yandan (Eye Carbuncle) arises on the eyelids, either upper or lower. The eyelids belong to the Spleen and Stomach. Although the manifestation appears in the Spleen-Stomach region, it is actually due to toxin accumulation in the Heart Meridian, where Heat transmits to the Spleen and Stomach, causing Heat-Toxicity to ascend, resulting in the coagulation of Qi and Blood to form Dandu (Carbuncle). When Wind predominates, swelling subsides easily; when Heat is severe, induration and swelling are difficult to dissipate. Apply Ruyi Jinhuang San externally; internally, decoct Lingyang Jiao (Antelope Horn), Ganju (Chrysanthemum), Shijueming (Arca Concha), Xiakucao (Prunella Spike), Jinyinhua (Lonicera Flower), Danpi (Moutan Cortex), and Shanzhi (Gardenia Fruit). If pus matures, puncture urgently with a needle; delay may cause spontaneous rupture at the canthus. This area corresponds to the Jingming acupoint, which is hollow internally and difficult to close, often leading to fistula formation.
Yanlou (Eye Fistula), also known as Loujing Chuang, arises below the medial canthus, caused by Damp-Heat and Wind-Dampness in the Liver. The disease originates at the Jingming acupoint of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, which is the repository for tears. Initially, it resembles a bean or date, with redness, swelling, and pain. Although the lesion is small, the root is deep. At this stage, Qingjie Qingsan methods are appropriate. If it ulcerates, it is often difficult to heal, forming a fistulous tract. Insert Sheng Yao strips for drainage, changing once daily, taking dozens of days to close. Internally administer Shenxiao Huangqi Tang, or prepare as pills. In some cases, the ulceration severs the lateral canthal ligament, making healing extremely difficult.
