This is also a Western medicine, which can also detoxify and prevent putrefaction with a mild nature, suitable for mild cases of ulcers. For severe cases, when new flesh has already grown and the wound is about to close, it can also be used. For conditions such as chancre (hard chancre), yin sores, breast abscesses, breast tinea, hemorrhoids, penile chancre, and scrotal lesions, where carbolic acid cannot be used, this medicine is also employed. For rotting of the throat and tongue, gum disease (stomatitis gangrenosa), and mouth ulcers, it is used for gargling to remove filth. For redness and swelling of the eyes, excessive tearing, and eye tinea with dampness, itching, redness, and ulceration, dissolve one liang of boric acid in twelve liang of boiling water, and use after cooling. For mild cases, the amount of water can also be doubled.
Ulcerous lesions corroding and severing blood vessels often easily lead to the overflow of fresh blood; similarly, when a patient's liver yang is too hyperactive and fire-toxin is extremely intense, spontaneous flow of fresh blood is also common. Failure to stop the bleeding is extremely dangerous. The Western method must use an artery forceps to clamp the artery, so that bleeding is not excessive; but practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine cannot use this method, so medicinal drugs are even more important. Furthermore, for conditions such as blood arrows (arterial spurting), blood nevi, and injuries from metal blades or weapons, emergency treatment methods are indispensable. Here, two simple and effective prescriptions are recorded to prepare for family emergencies. As for ancient established prescriptions, there are many that are effective, but they cannot all be copied; there is no need to adopt too many, lest it merely inflate the length of the text.
Treats metal wounds to stop bleeding, and for ulcerous lesions with unceasing bleeding.
Zijin Teng (i.e., Dalbergia odorifera wood / Xiangmu, five liang) Ru Xiang (Frankincense) Mo Yao (Myrrh, de-oiled, two liang each) Xue Jie (Dragon's Blood) Wu Bei Zi (Galla Chinensis, stir-fried into a clump, one liang five qian each)
Grind separately into extremely fine powder and mix evenly. For every one liang of medicinal powder, add three qian of Mei Bing (Borneol), grind again until uniform, and store tightly sealed to prevent leakage. The older, the better.
Stops bleeding and relieves pain.
Long Yan He (Seed of Dimocarpus longan / Longan seed), peel off one layer of black shell, stir-fry and grind into extremely fine powder. For every one liang, add two qian of Bing Pian (Borneol), mix evenly, grind again, and store tightly sealed.
Prescriptions for generating flesh and closing wounds are numerous in ancient texts. However, when an ulcerous lesion reaches the stage where necrotic tissue is completely eliminated and new flesh is newly generated, the major task is accomplished. The patient naturally possesses nourishing capacity; even without medication, the wound will not fail to close due to deficiency. Only occasionally, when righteous qi (vital energy) is too thin and difficult to generate flesh, should internal administration of tonifying medicines be combined with external application of medicinal power to assist. This is also a method that practitioners of ulcer treatment must prepare for. The secular world competes in advocating Xi Huang (Calculus Bovis / Cow bezoar) and Zhen Zhu (Pearl); although expensive, it is nothing more than a scheme for doctors to accumulate wealth. In reality, efficacy does not necessarily require gold, pearls, or agate. Here, several commonly used prescriptions are recorded to reveal the truth to colleagues. They are chosen solely for their efficacy and low cost, fearing that city physicians, upon hearing this, will shake their heads and click their tongues, unable to comprehend the wonder.
