[Symptoms of Splei Meridian Cough] Cough accompanied by dull pain in the right hypochondrium, radiating to the heart and spleen regions; mental fatigue with a desire to sleep, sallow complexion, abdominal distension, yellowish edema, heaviness preventing movement, and exacerbation of cough upon exertion. These are the symptoms of Splei Meridian Cough. If Splei Cough persists, it transmits to the Stomach. The presentation of Stomach Cough involves coughing with vomiting, and in severe cases...
[Etiology of Splei Meridian Cough] It may be caused by the accumulation of heat from excessive consumption of rich and sweet foods, where damp-heat steams and ferments, causing fire of the Spleen and Stomach to ascend and harass the Lungs. Or it may result from Earth failing to generate Metal (Splei deficiency failing to nourish the Lungs), where the mother organ's deficiency leads to disease in the child organ, resulting in Splei deficiency and damage. These two factors constitute the etiology of Splei Meridian Cough.
[Pulse Signs of Splei Meridian Cough] A surging and rapid pulse at the Right Cun position indicates Fire in the Lung house; a wiry and rapid pulse at the Right Guan position indicates accumulated heat in the intestines and stomach; a deficient and large pulse at the Cun Kou position indicates insufficiency of Lung Qi.
[Therapeutic Methods for Splei Meridian Cough] For Heat in the Lungs, use Jia Mi Xie Bai San (Secret Formula for Draining White). For Heat accumulation in the Spleen and Stomach, use Zhi Lian Er Chen Tang (Gardenia and Coptis Two-Chen Decoction). For insufficiency of Lung Qi, use Sheng Mai San (Generate Pulse Powder). For Earth failing to generate Metal, use Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction); if phlegm is present, use Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction); for deficient heat, add Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex) and Shan Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus); if heat is severe, add Zhi Zi and Huang Lian.

Add Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Chuan Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma). If Stomach Fire is present, add Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum). If Liver Fire is present, add Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix). If Heart Fire is present, add Huang Lian. If Kidney Fire is present, add Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex).

[Symptoms of Heart Meridian Cough] Cough accompanied by heart pain, a sensation of obstruction in the throat as if something were stuck, and in severe cases, swelling of the tongue and sore throat. These are the symptoms of Heart Cough. If Heart Cough persists, it transmits to the Small Intestine. The presentation of Small Intestine Cough involves coughing with the loss of gas (flatus), where gas and cough are expelled simultaneously.
[Etiology of Heart Meridian Cough] Excessive anxiety, worry, and mental labor cause Heart Fire to move recklessly, imprisoning Metal, leading to dryness and fullness of the Lung lobes, resulting in wheezing and cough. Or it may be due to insufficiency of Heart Blood and depletion of Heart Qi, causing restlessness of the Heart Spirit, which ascends to induce wheezing and cough. These two factors constitute the etiology of Heart Meridian Cough.
[Pulse Signs of Heart Meridian Cough] A surging and rapid pulse at the Left Cun position indicates Heat in the Heart Meridian; a surging and rapid pulse at the Right Cun position indicates Heat in the Lung house; a fine and rapid pulse at the Left Cun position indicates Deficient Fire in the Heart Meridian.
[Therapeutic Methods for Heart Meridian Cough] For a surging and rapid pulse at the Left Cun, use Dao Chi Ge Ban Tang (Half-and-Half Decoction for Guiding Out Redness) and Zhu Sha An Shen Wan (Cinnabar Calming the Spirit Pill). For a surging and rapid pulse at the Right Cun, use Jia Mi Xie Bai San.
