Treats deficiency and damage of the Zang-Fu organs, emaciation and frailty of the body, tidal fever with spontaneous sweating, which is about to develop into Laozai (consumptive disease similar to pulmonary tuberculosis). This prescription is highly effective in reducing fever, tonifying deficiency, generating blood, and nourishing blood.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (5 fen), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (1 qian, honey-fried), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (body part, 1.5 qian), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (1.5 qian), Baifuling (Poria) (1 qian), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (heart removed, 1.5 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (5 fen, roasted), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (albedo removed, 8 fen), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix) (8 fen).
Take the above nine herbs as one dose, decoct in water, use fresh ginger and jujube as guides, take warm after meals.
Note: The nine herbs in the above formula are particularly suited to the condition. The rationale is that Renshen treats the five labors and seven injuries, deficiency damage, and emaciation. Huangqi treats deficiency labor with spontaneous sweating, securing the Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) and pores. Danggui treats deficiency labor with alternating chills and fever, expelling old blood and generating new blood. Baishao tonifies Kidney Qi, reduces labor fever, restrains Liver Wood to strengthen Spleen Earth. Baifuling treats labor injury by promoting dampness drainage, addressing the root of phlegm. Maimendong moistens dryness, clears Metal (Lung), nourishes Yin, and descends fire. Chenpi moves stagnation of Renshen and Huangqi to benefit Spleen Qi. Qianhu clears Lung heat, transforms phlegm-heat, eliminates the stale and promotes the new. Gancao tonifies the five labors and seven injuries, benefits essence and Qi, nourishes Yin and tonifies Stomach, and further treats sore throat. The use of nine herbs in this formula is precise for each ingredient. It is like Sun Wu and Wu Qi using troops; they merely lead an army of a hundred thousand. Originally, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) was included, but I omitted it.
Treats deficiency labor with exogenous heat, muscle emaciation, vexing heat in the four limbs, palpitations with night sweats, poor appetite with thirst, cough with blood.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (1 qian, honey-fried), Biejia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum) (1 qian, vinegar-fried), Tiantongdong (Asparagi Radix) (heart and skin removed, 1 qian), Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex) (8 fen, honey-fried), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (5 fen), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) (1.5 qian, steamed in light wine), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (1 qian, baked), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) (1 qian, honey-fried), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) (1 qian), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix) (1 qian), Baifuling (Poria) (1 qian), Ziwan (Asternis Radix) (fluff taken, 1 qian), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 qian), Digupi (Lycii Cortex) (1 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (3 fen).
Take the above fifteen herbs, add three slices of fresh ginger, decoct in water, and take orally.
Note: The fifteen herbs in the above formula are also precise ingredients. The rationale is that Huangqi treats the five labors with emaciation, alternating chills and fever with spontaneous sweating, tonifying Qi and solidifying the exterior. Biejia treats labor-induced emaciation, removes labor-heat and firmness between bone joints, nourishes Yin and tonifies Qi. Digupi treats bone-steaming vexing heat. Qinjiao, Jiegeng, and Renshen jointly treat Chuanshi (infectious consumption) bone-steaming, labor-heat, and spontaneous sweating. Sangbaipi removes fluid retention in the Lung and treats coughing blood due to fire-heat. Tiantongdong clears Lung Qi, clears Lung heat, and eliminates cough-phlegm. Ziwan stops cough with pus and blood, eliminates phlegm, and benefits the Lung. Shengdihuang treats coughing and vomiting blood. Zhimu drains Lung fire, nourishes Kidney Water, and eliminates Minister Fire from the Gate of Vitality (Mingmen). Chaihu treats labor-heat, eliminates phlegm, and stops cough. Gancao drains fire, nourishes Yin, and tonifies the Spleen. Baifuling tonifies the five labors and seven injuries, treating conditions such as Lung atrophy and phlegm obstruction. Baishao benefits the Liver and strengthens the Spleen. This formula comprises fifteen herbs; although numerous, their application is precise. It is like Han Xin leading troops: the more, the better. Who could fail in battle? Originally, Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) and Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) were included, but I omitted them.
