Plantaginis Semen (Cheqianzi), Tectari Radix (Mutong), Rheum Palmatum Rhizoma et Radix (Dahuang), Talcum (Huashi), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma caulis (Gancao Shao), Polygoni Avicularis Herba (Bianxu), Diantherae Herba (Qumai), Gardeniae Fructus (Zhiren).
The *Neijing* states: When the Bladder's Qi transformation is obstructed, it results in strangury (Long); the treatment should employ Ba Zheng San to unblock it. Slippery substances remove adherence; Talcum and Plantaginis Semen are slippery. Purgation removes excess; Rheum Palmatum Rhizoma et Radix, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma caulis, and Gardeniae Fructus are purgative. Unblocking removes stagnation; Diantherae Herba, Polygoni Avicularis Herba, and Tectari Radix are unblocking agents. If the patient is deficient, Rheum Palmatum Rhizoma et Radix should not be used; instead, add Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Shengdi), Morus Alba Cortex (Sangbaipi), and Phyllostachys Viridis Caulis (Kuzhuye) to clear and treat with heat-resolving methods. For all cases where Heart Heat rushes upward to the eyes, or when Toxic Heat is accumulated in the Taiyang channel, this decoction must be taken. After ingestion, if one feels Damp-Heat pouring downward, with urgency and pain in the lower abdomen, and a desire to urinate but inability to do so, add Costi Rhizoma (Muxiang) to transform Qi in the middle jiao, thereby expelling the lethargic pathogenic factors.
Poem says: Ba Zheng San consists of Cheqianzi and Gancao Shao, combined with Dahuang, Huashi, and Mutong; adding Zhiren, Bianxu, and Qumai causes turbulent郁热 (stagnant heat) to flow away, eliminating urinary obstruction.
Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Rheum Palmatum Rhizoma et Radix (Dahuang), Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Bohe), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Shaoyao), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Atractodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Talcum (Huashi), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao), Gardeniae Fructus (Zhiren), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng), Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao), Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie), Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang), Mirabilite (Mangxiao), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin).
Among diseases, none is more urgent than Wind-Fire conflict. When Wind and Fire battle, the treatment principle is to resolve both exterior and interior simultaneously. In this formula, Saposhnikoviae Radix and Ephedrae Herba are exterior-dispersing herbs; for Wind-Heat in the skin, they cause excretion through sweating. Schizonepetae Spica and Menthae Haplocalycis Herba are upper-clearing herbs; for Wind-Heat at the vertex, they cause excretion via nasal discharge. Rheum Palmatum Rhizoma et Radix and Mirabilite are bowel-unblocking herbs; for Wind-Heat in the intestines and stomach, they cause excretion via feces. Talcum and Gardeniae Fructus are water-passage herbs; for Wind-Heat in the Sanjiao waterways, they cause excretion via urine. Wind invading the diaphragm affects the Lung and Stomach; Gypsum Fibrosum and Platycodonis Radix clear this. Wind wandering in the collaterals stirs latent fire; Paeoniae Radix Rubra, Scutellariae Radix, and Forsythiae Fructus descend and reduce it. Bitter-cold substances may damage Yin, so Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma and Angelicae Sinensis Radix harmonize Liver Blood to nourish. Acrid-dispersing substances may damage Yang, so Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma and Atractodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma regulate Stomach Qi to protect. For all cases of sudden Wind-Kernal Heat, this formula is effective. Adding Chrysanthemi Flos (Juhua), Coptidis Rhizoma (Lian), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo), and Tribuli Fructus (Jili) creates Juhua Tongsheng San, which has the same therapeutic effect. For weak individuals with non-hard stools, remove Mangxiao and Dahuang. In dry, hot weather with excessive sweating, Mahuang should also be avoided.
Poem says: Shuangjie Tang contains Mahuang and Dahuang, Zhiren, Bohe, Baizhu, Shaoyao, Gancao, Chuanxiong, and Fangfeng; Shigao, Mangxiao, and Huashi are omitted unless necessary; Jingjie, Jiegeng, Lianqiao, and Huangqin are used appropriately.
