Tian Shi (Heavenly Master) said: "Deep treatment" refers to treating diseases that are deeply rooted. For instance, when the disease is located in the gaohuang (the area between the heart and diaphragm, referring to deep-seated and difficult-to-treat conditions), or in the bone marrow, or in the brain. Such conditions do not develop overnight; therefore, treatment cannot be expected to yield results in a single day. It is necessary to take decoctions frequently during the day and pills for an extended period at midnight. Without taking hundreds of doses or accumulating dozens of jin (approx. 500g per jin) of medicinal materials, efficacy cannot be achieved. Among these, Lao Zhai (chronic consumptive diseases, similar to tuberculosis) are most common, followed by Xu Lao (deficiency exhaustion). The prescription consists of Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root) 1 liang, Shan Zhu Yu (Cornus Fruit) 4 qian, Shan Yao (Dioscorea Rhizome) 3 qian, Dan Pi (Moutan Bark) 2 qian, Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome) 2 qian, Fu Ling (Poria) 3 qian, Bei Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra Berry) 1 qian, Mai Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber) 3 qian, and Qian Shi (Euryale Seed) 5 qian. Decoct with water and take orally. This is the morning prescription. The evening pill prescription uses: one Zijheche (Human Placenta), Lu Jiao Jiao (Deer Antler Glue) 2 liang, Gui Jiao (Tortoise Shell Glue) 3 liang, Yuan Shen (Scrophularia Root) 3 liang, Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root) 8 liang, Shan Zhu Yu (Cornus Fruit) 4 liang, Di Gu Pi (Lycium Bark) 5 liang, Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) 2 liang, Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Rhizome) 5 liang, Bai Shao (White Peony Root) 5 liang, Chao Suan Zao Ren (Fried Ziziphus Seed) 3 liang, Gou Qi Zi (Goji Berry) 3 liang, Mai Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber) 3 liang, and two bowls of Ren Ru (Human Milk) to soak the Shu Di Huang, then dry it. Add Sha Ren (Amomum Fruit) 5 qian. Grind all into fine powder. Take 5 qian with plain boiled water at midnight. This formula is neither hot nor cold and can be taken long-term. Its name is Zhong Zheng Wan (Central Upright Pill). When the disease damages the root foundation, supporting it is not easy. It is like flowers and trees suffering severe devastation; wanting their branches and leaves to flourish cannot happen overnight. One must cultivate and irrigate them. After a full year or more, the spring vitality will gradually return, buds will grow, and recovery will slowly occur. One must not be impatient. Using both decoctions and pills, diet must also accord with the seasons. The difficulty of deep treatment has always caused furrowed brows. Do not be impatient, hoping for quick results. This is the method of deep treatment. For gaohuang diseases, only one or two out of ten may survive. Discussing this treatment method, not everyone can save them. But apart from this, there is no other treatment. Pitying the world, I have established this approach. If you are willing to listen to my words, abstain from sexual desires, keep your taste bland, and guard against greed and anger in your mind, the medicine will naturally be effective. Otherwise, you can only prolong your life temporarily. This is something that must be warned against.
Mr. Zhang said: "This is truly a divine technique of the Buddha's mind." Lao Zhai (chronic consumptive diseases) indeed cannot be cured quickly. Tian Shi's formula is stable yet contains profound principles. I have another formula, which is also extremely stable, and I pass it on for others to choose. The prescription uses Qian Shi (Euryale Seed) 8 liang, Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) 8 liang, Shan Yao (Dioscorea Rhizome) 3 jin, Nuomi (Glutinous Rice) 1 jin, Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) 3 liang, Fu Ling (Poria) 3 liang, Lian Zi (Lotus Seed) 0.5 jin, and Bai Tang (White Sugar) 0.5 jin. Grind all into fine powder. Take 1 liang daily mixed with plain boiled water. If mixing is undesirable, form into pills like yuanxiao (glutinous rice balls) and take them. Taking one pill in the morning and one in the afternoon is best; it can also serve as an adjunct to deep treatment.
Master Hua said: None.
Lei Gong (Thunder Duke) said: "I also have a formula to pass on to you." Use Qian Shi (Euryale Seed) 1 jin, Shan Yao (Dioscorea Rhizome) 2 jin, Hei Zhi Ma (Black Sesame Seed) 8 liang, Xiao Huang Mi (Yellow Millet) stir-fried 3 jin, Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) 1 jin, Bai Tang (White Sugar) 1 jin, Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark) 5 qian. Grind all into fine powder. Take 5 qian or 1 liang daily mixed with plain boiled water. This will naturally open the appetite, strengthen the spleen, tonify the kidney, and benefit essence. Some may doubt that adding Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark) might stimulate fire. However, without the fire of the Ming Men (Gate of Life), humans cannot grow. In over seven jin of medicinal materials, adding only 5 qian of cinnamon amounts to less than one percent. How could it be hot? It precisely utilizes its warming qi to promote the growth of the spleen and stomach. The formula is named Quan Sheng Zhi Bao Dan (Complete Life Precious Treasure Pill). [Commentary: Tian Shi said: Extremely wonderful, can be taken regularly. True Person Zhang said: Extremely excellent.]
