(Liver suffers from urgency, eat sweet to relieve it)。
This is Jianzhong Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Licorice Decoction) added with Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), used to treat postpartum emaciation and weakness. After half a month, taking it three times daily can restore strength.
This is Jianzhong Tang added with Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Danggui, Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), and Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber).
This is Dajianzhong Tang (Great Cinnamon Twig and Licorice Decoction) with Fuzi removed, and Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), JuPi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), and Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber) added. It is a compound formula used to treat syndromes such as Qi and Blood exhaustion, visceral deficiency and damage, borborygmus, and mental fatigue.
This is GuiZhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) combined with MaHuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction), used to treat Taiyang disease (disease of the Taiyang channel) persisting for eight or nine days, characterized by a faint pulse and aversion to cold. This indicates insufficiency of both Yin and Yang; sweating should not be induced again. If the condition has not resolved because slight perspiration cannot be achieved, the body will likely itch; this decoction is indicated.
This is GuiZhi Tang in a two-part ratio combined with MaHuang Tang in a one-part ratio, used to treat cases where, after taking GuiZhi Tang, symptoms resemble malaria, occurring twice a day. This formula is appropriate.
This is GuiZhi Tang in a two-part ratio combined with Yuebi Tang (Yuebi Decoction) in a one-part ratio, used to treat Taiyang disease with fever and aversion to cold, where heat predominates over cold, and the pulse is faint. This indicates an inability to sweat due to lack of Yang (Yang deficiency or fluid insufficiency preventing diaphoresis). According to Lin Yi: The formula for GuiZhi Tang consists of Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), Shaoyao (Peony Root), and Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) each at 3 liang; Gancao (Licorice Root) at 2 liang; and Dazao (Jujube Fruit) at 12 pieces. The formula for Yuebi Tang consists of Mahuang (Ephedra Stem) at 2 liang, Shengjiang at 3 liang, Gancao... [text missing].
Used to treat Taiyang disease presenting with headache, fever, body ache, lower back pain, bone and joint pain, aversion to wind, absence of sweat, and wheezing.
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 3 liang, nodes removed, nature: sweet and warm); Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 2 liang, bark removed, nature: acrid and hot); Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, honey-fried, nature: sweet and neutral); Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 70 seeds, skin and tips removed, nature: acrid and warm).
The above four ingredients are boiled in 9 sheng of water. First, boil Mahuang until the volume reduces by 2 sheng, skimming off the foam on top. Then add the remaining herbs and boil to obtain 2.5 sheng. Strain and take 8 he of the warm decoction. Cover the patient to induce a slight sweat; drinking hot porridge is not necessary.
Yuanrong (Zhang Yuansu) stated: In summer, add Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), fearing the onset of jaundice. Only in winter and spring, if the patient has a constitution prone to deficiency-cold, is it inappropriate to add these herbs. Cheng Wuji stated: The Materia Medica records... light... solid... inside [text fragmented/missing].
This is MaHuang Tang with Guizhi removed and Shigao added, used to treat sweating with wheezing and no significant high fever. The *Neijing* states: "When the Liver suffers from urgency, consume sweet substances to relax it." Since the exterior pathogenic factor is severe, pure sweet agents are used to disperse it.
This is MaHuang Tang with Xingren and Guizhi removed, used to treat Fengshui (Wind-Water Edema).
This is Gancao Mahuang Tang added with Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 piece), used to treat Shaoyin disease (disease of the Shaoyin channel) for two or three days without interior syndromes. The sweetness of Mahuang and Gancao is used to disperse, and the acridity of Fuzi is used to warm the meridians and Qi. The *Jin Gui Yao Lue* names this Mahuang Fuzi Tang, used to treat Water-Qi disease.
