(Fangfeng)
(Zhiqiao, Aurantium Fructus)
水(Water Retention/Edema)
(Qian, a unit of weight)
(Baishao, White Peony Root)
阴(Yin)
(Renshen, Ginseng Root)
(Niuxi, Achyranthes Root)
Lu Zu (Master Lü) selected and discussed the treatment methods for common people at the initial stage of illness, where medication is easy to achieve efficacy. However, people often fail to clearly discern the condition, leading to chaotic medication use and a swarm of changing symptoms. If the condition is recognized clearly and medication is administered appropriately...
Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root)
At the onset of Shanghan (Cold Damage), there are nasal congestion, eye pain, neck stiffness, and headache; palpating the pulse will reveal it to be floating and tight. This is Shanghan. The formula uses: Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) 1 qian, Gancao (Licorice Root) 1 qian.
Symptoms of Shangsui (Food Stagnation) include fullness and stuffiness in the heart/chest, aversion to seeing food, and increased pain after eating. This is Shangsui. The formula uses: Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) 1 qian, Fuling (Poria) 1 qian, Zhiqiao (Aurantium Fructus) ...
Shuixing (Water Retention)
The initial treatment formula.
Lan Daxian said: These three formulas determine the symptoms at the initial stage. Now I select those for initial illness due to Shangshu (Summerheat Injury), which inevitably presents with dizziness, thirst, aversion to heat, and even body heat... qian.
At the onset of Shangshi (Dampness Injury), there is inevitably an aversion to dampness, heavy body, swollen feet, and short, red urine. The formula uses: Baizhu 3 qian, Zexie 3 qian, Zhuling 3 ...
However.
Initial Dryness Disease presents with dry throat and mouth, incessant coughing with expectoration, red face and eyes, and no fear of wind blowing. The formula uses: Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber) 5 qian, Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) 3 qian, Gancao 1 qian, Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes Root) 1 qian, Chenpi (Tangerine Peel) 3 fen, Yuanshen (Scrophularia Root) 5 qian, Baiibu (Stemona Root) 8 fen. Decoct in water and take orally. After one dose, dryness stops; after three doses, recovery is complete.
Initial Fire Syndrome presents with extreme thirst and desire to drink, spots on the body, or body heat like burning, or mania and delirious speech. Urgently use the formula: Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 3 qian, Yuanshen 1 ...
After one dose, recovery is achieved.
Maori Xingjun said: Excellent. Summerheat syndromes invariably involve dampness, so using Baizhu and Fuling in the formula is good.
Zhong Daxian said: When the illness has healed, for post-recovery planning, I also select a few formulas. After Shanghan pathogens have completely receded, Zhengqi (Upright Qi) is naturally deficient, so it is appropriate to tonify Zhengqi, fearing... Kidney...

For regulation after Zhongshu (Heatstroke) injuring Qi, one should not solely treat Qi but prioritize nourishing Blood, as Yang injury leads to Yin blood consumption. The formula uses: Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) 1 liang, Baishao (White Peony Root) ...
Yin
Zhongfeng (Wind Stroke) is also Qi deficiency. One should only tonify Qi, not Blood. Because Wind Stroke occurs after Blood stasis, tonifying Blood further would increase Qi stagnation. The formula uses: Renshen (Ginseng Root) ...

Ge Zhenren said: Extremely excellent. I select this formula for tonification. After Zhongshi (Dampness Invasion), water-dampness has been purged, so the method should be to strengthen the Spleen and concurrently tonify the Fire of Mingmen (Gate of Life) to generate...
Decoct and take orally.
Since Fire Syndrome has dissipated, one must not blindly purge Fire, lest Wei Qi (Stomach Qi) be injured. The formula uses: Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root) 1 liang, Yuanshen 5 qian, Maidong 1 liang, Niuxi (Achyranthes Root) ...
Treating with flavor/taste is acceptable.
