[Background Information]
Book: *Shenxian Jishi Liangfang* (Excellent Prescriptions from Immortals to Save the World)
Chapter: Preface by Queen Mother of the West / On Diseases About to Heal / On Severe Vomiting and Diarrhea, Thirst, Fullness, Carbuncles on the Back, etc.
Category: Formulas
[Jiaqing Year 2, Autumn, Seventh Month, Full Moon Day.] I descended in spirit at the Ningbi West Pavilion. Because the previously published *Jishi Liangfang* by Heting was incomplete, this time I selected the most excellent prescriptions and modified them, repeatedly debating the profound discussions within to ensure precision and detail. Therefore, I ordered Heming and others to copy and print them for dissemination to save people.

Profound and unique, leading the female immortals, residing in the sacred place of the West Pool, truly participating in transformation from the Nine Heavens. When the peaches of immortality ripen, a banquet is held; when jade nectar is formed, it is the freshest.
Not merely a clay statue.
(Recorded with respect by Lü Yan [Lü Dongbin])
Lü Zu (Lü Dongbin) selects, Heavenly Master discusses diseases about to heal. Difficulty in digesting food, discomfort in the chest and diaphragm, possibly vomiting acid water, loose stools, restless sleep at night, or tidal fever during the day.
Prescription: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) 1 qian, Fu Ling (Poria) 2 qian, Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 2 qian, Gan Cao (Licorice Root) 5 fen, Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 5 fen, Zhi Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum) 7 fen. This is Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction).
If feeling slight pain in the chest, add Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus) 5 fen, Shan Zha (Crataegi Fructus) 10 grains; if there is phlegm, add Bai Jie Zi (Sinapis Semen) 1 qian; if coughing, add Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix) 1 qian; if diarrhea, add He Zi (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus) 1 qian; if severe abdominal pain, add Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) 5 fen, Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 1 qian; if dizziness, add Man Jing Zi (Viticis Fructus) 1 qian, Chuan Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 1 qian; if vomiting acid water, add Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus) 1 qian, double the amount of Fu Ling; if fullness, add Zhi Ke 5 fen.
Mao Ri Xing Jun (Star Lord of Mao) says: It appears plain, but its efficacy is unfathomable.
Lü Zu selects and modifies. In cases of severe vomiting and diarrhea, thirst, abdominal distension, carbuncles on the back, etc., where death can occur in an instant, without using large doses of drugs to expel pathogens and detoxify, it is difficult to recover.
Prescription: Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 5 qian, Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) 5 qian, Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 3 qian, Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen) 3 qian, Gan Cao (Licorice Root) 8 fen. Decoct in water and take orally. One dose cures.
Hua Zhen Ren (Immortal Hua) says: The wonder of this prescription lies entirely in using Da Huang to promote purgation. However, using Da Huang without sufficient Ren Shen means only attacking without tonifying, which damages true qi; this requires discussion.
Severe fullness indicates pathogenic factors stagnating in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner) and unable to disperse.
Prescription: Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus) 2 qian, Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus) 2 qian, Gua Lou (Trichosanthis Fructus) 1 whole, Tian Hua Fen (Trichosanthis Radix) 2 qian, Gan Cao (Licorice Root) 5 fen.
Mao Ri Xing Jun says: The妙 (wonder) of this prescription lies in using Gua Lou to remove food retention in the chest and diaphragm, eliminate phlegm in the Upper Jiao, and assist Zhi Ke and Tian Hua Fen to dissipate constraints in the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner).
For carbuncles on the back, prescriptions have already been determined and can be viewed collectively, so they are not detailed here. These extraordinary discussions enter into subtlety and spirit; how could one add a word?
However, regarding great cold occurring between summer and autumn, how to distinguish it? I distinguish by heat and pain. In heat-fire conditions, the mouth must be thirsty, the tongue dry, even prickly; the tongue coating must be yellow, gray, or black; abdominal pain is severe and cannot be pressed upon. In cold diarrhea, there is no thirst, nor a strong desire to drink water; the tongue coating is white, slippery, and dry; abdominal pain is relieved by pressure. The prescription should use Qi-tonifying herbs to generate Stomach Qi, assisted by herbs that separate and transform turbidity.
Prescription: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), Fu Ling (Poria), Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Zhu Ling (Polyporus), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex). Decoct in water and take orally. This is Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) added with Ren Shen. Dosage should be adjusted according to the severity of the disease.
Ge Zhen Ren (Immortal Ge) says: Discussing the wonder, using Ren Shen is essential to rescue a critical condition, assisting Fu Ling and Bai Zhu to remove dampness, and having Fu Zi and Rou Gui to warm yang and dispel cold.
