Bitter in taste, slightly cold in nature. It primarily treats breast swelling and pain in women, seven types of injuries, and leukorrhea (vaginal discharge). It can relieve pain, eliminate necrotic flesh (gangrenous tissue), stop sweating, and treat traumatic wounds caused by metal weapons. It grows in mountain valleys.
Elm trees are widespread on the plains, while *Sanguisorba officinalis* stands alone with its stems and leaves. Where is there any need for precious treasures like pearls? *Sanguisorba officinalis* (often referred to as "jade bean" in poetic contexts) is commonly used for harmonization. When yang qi is vigorous like a proud horse, fog dissipates; metals and stones melt and vanish. Its aroma brews熟 like tea, accompanied by lotus root and wild dishes.
Su Song stated: It is found everywhere in plains and marshes. The seedlings initially spread flat on the ground, with a single stem growing straight upward. The leaves resemble those of the elm tree. An ancient verse says: "Would one rather have a handful of *Sanguisorba officinalis*, than use the bright moon's pearl?" In alchemical practices involving boiling stones, why not consume jade and *Sanguisorba officinalis*? The commentary notes that this is indeed *Sanguisorba officinalis*. The *Qunfang Pu* records: This herb does not change even in fog because the solar qi is abundant. Burned to ash, it can melt metals and stones. Its roots, when boiled as a drink, resemble tea juice, and it can also be used to brew wine. Its leaves can be fried and eaten. Ouyang Xiu recorded: Wild mountain dishes and vegetables.
Bitter in taste, cold in nature. It primarily treats goiter and tumors, specifically lumps under the head and neck caused by qi stagnation. It breaks up and disperses stagnant qi, treating abscesses, masses (fixed abdominal masses), and hard accumulations. It addresses rumbling in the upper and lower abdomen and eliminates twelve types of edema. Also known as Luoshou. It grows in ponds and marshes.
It relies on turbulent waters, cultivating purity and self-cleansing. Vines cling like belts, hair-like strands wind like clouds. Fire borrows light, reflecting the beauty or ugliness of forms. It is exquisite like woven silk, contributing its efficacy alongside marine islands.
Ji Kang's poem states: "Looking down at green algae, relying on turbulent waters." The *Book of Rites* states: "Stored there, cultivated there." The *Piya* explains: Algae are aquatic plants with textures. The character derives from "bath," meaning self-cleaning like bathing. Du Fu's poem states: "Paths and stones entwine like belts." Crown Prince Zhaoming's poem states: "Pulling vines to descend stone steps." The commentary of the *Erya* states: Also known as Hailuo. The *Classic of Poetry* states: "Hair like clouds." Tao Hongjing said: It grows on marine islands, black like tangled hair. Book annotations state: Algae and fire; algae represent cleanliness, fire represents brightness. Yan Fuqi stated: Algae mirrors reflect light. Liu Yuxi's fu states: "With many methods, it generates beauty and ugliness naturally." Li Shizhen stated: The *Erya* says: "Lun resembles lun, Zu resembles zu, found in the East Sea." This is Kelp (*Laminaria japonica*). Its properties and tastes are similar, and their primary treatments are consistent.
Bitter in taste, slightly warm in nature. It primarily treats internal epistaxis (nosebleed) in postpartum women, residual diseases after stroke, massive abdominal edema, edema of the body, face, and limbs, water accumulation in joints, traumatic wounds from metal weapons, abscesses, and purulent wounds. Also known as Hulan, and also known as Longzao. It grows beside large marshes.

Ji Kang's poem states: "Lush and misty orchids." Su Song stated: It blooms purple and white flowers in July. Shu Xi's poem states: "Following the southern bank, gathering its orchids." Wu Pu stated: Seedlings emerge in February, with red nodes and four leaves facing each other. Su Gong stated: Stems are square with purple nodes. It also says: "Plucking fragrant herbs to leave for my beloved." The *Book of Rites* states: "After three days, request a bath." *Dunzhai Xianlan*: The orchids sung of in the *Chu Ci* are considered by some to be Yi Lan, and by others to be Duliang Fragrance; however, it should be identified as *Eupatorium fortunei* (Zelan). Yang Shen's preface: Potted plants resembling cattails and daylilies in households are different species of orchids, called Sun and Zhi. The injustice done to Jiwan has lasted a thousand years. The *Erya Yi* states: The current orchid grass is Duliang Fragrance.
