(Attached: Ding Chuang / Carbuncle)
Although this is a minor skin disease that causes little harm, there are malignant sores (E Chuang), stubborn tinea (Wan Xuan), and scabies causing skin atrophy (Jie Lao Fu), which are particularly troublesome, sometimes lasting for years without relief. Those suffering from this should not rely solely on external applications; instead, internal administration to disperse the pathogenic toxin is required. Shengma Heqi Yin, Xiaodu Yin, Sishun Qingliang Yin, and Xijiao Yin can all be used.
For purple and white wind bi (Zi Bai Feng Bian), after taking Xiaofeng San mixed with wine, the patient should bathe. Then, add Sophora tonkinensis pod powder (Zao Jiao Mo) to Xiaofeng San to scrub the affected area, and apply Wubai Gao externally. For bathing, mix Fritillaria thunbergii bulb powder (Beimu Mo) with vinegar and brush it on with a pen; frequent bathing and application are best.
There are many names for sores; since they belong to surgery (Wai Ke), they cannot all be described.
Sores resembling cowhide, with unbearable itching and pain, can be treated with equal parts of Coptis chinensis rhizome (Huanglian), Aucklandia root (Muxiang), Phellodendron bark (Huangbai Pi), and two Cinnamomum camphora twig joints (Shanshu Jie), along with a small amount of alum (Mingfan). Grind into powder, mix with high-quality sesame oil or similar true oil, and apply externally for efficacy.
Huodai Chuang (Fire Belt Sore), growing around the waist, can be treated with a single herb, Jianhongluo (either flower or leaf), ground into fine powder and mixed with honey for immediate effect upon application, or applied via small paper patches.
Ding Chuang (Carbuncle/Furuncle): In recent years, many have died from this disease because its toxic qi invades the interior and should not be treated as ordinary sores. It arises suddenly and leads to critical danger. If the toxic qi rises upward, the root of the sore becomes exposed.
Fei (Heat Rash/Miliaria) is called Fei Zuo in the *Suwen*. Use Xiangpufen mixed with Mirabilite powder (Puxiao Mo) for dusting as usual, adding a small amount of calcined white alum (Kubai Fan Mo).
Before the Han Dynasty, medical texts did not record chickenpox/smallpox (Dou) or scabies (Jie); these appeared starting from the Tuoba Wei period. At the onset of skin diseases, patients experience aversion to cold, fever, and body pain, indistinguishable from Cold Damage (Shanghan).
Some cases resemble malaria. A cold nose confirms the diagnosis of Dou/Jie. It is strictly contraindicated to use purgatives, as this drives the toxic qi inward, making it difficult for the lesions to crust over and heal. Chen Wenzhong's formulas are very detailed.
If three or four days after the eruption of Dou/Jie, the body is densely covered with vesicles, the stool is naturally firm, and no other pathogens interfere, but the sores suddenly collapse and form small pits like seal impressions or large feet, this is not due to failure to erupt. Rather, the excessive eruption has depleted blood and qi, which are insufficient to support further development. It is appropriate to nourish the blood with medicine. Once blood and qi are restored, the sores will rise. Qianjin Neibu San is indicated, removing Saposhnikovia root (Fangfeng) and Platycodon root (Jiegeng).
