Menstrual blood flows like fish brain marrow, accompanied by pain in both feet rendering them immobile; this is caused by deficiency and cold of the lower origin (the kidney and uterus), compounded by wind pathogen invasion. Treatment should promote blood circulation and move qi; Su Feng Zhi Tong Tang (Wind-Dispersing Pain-Relieving Decoction) is indicated.

Menstrual blood does not flow downward but instead exits through the mouth and nose, termed Ni Jing (Regurgitant Menstruation). This results from excessive consumption of pungent and hot substances such as pepper and ginger, which damage the blood with heat, causing chaotic upward rebellion of blood.
