The *Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic* states: The feet receive blood nourishment to enable walking; the hands receive blood nourishment to enable grasping; the palms receive blood nourishment to enable holding. Speaking, hearing, and seeing all rely on blood nourishment. If this syndrome occurs in individuals accustomed to rich and greasy foods after contracting wind-stroke, accompanied by slurred speech and drooling, it is due to phlegm-fluids entering the four limbs following the movement of Qi, lacking blood nourishment, thus rendering them immobile. Treatment should focus exclusively on resolving phlegm, without the need for herbs that nourish blood or strengthen sinews and bones.
In some cases, water exhaustion leads to fire hyperactivity, consuming Ying-blood (nutritive blood), causing the Zongjin (major sinews/tendons) to lose nourishment; these cases require nourishing blood and yin. In other cases, excessive consumption of sweet and fatty foods causes Spleen-earth to become overly full; these cases are suitable for purging with Sanhua Chengqi Tang (Three Transformations Bowel-Regulating Decoction) until Yang deficiency and balanced Spleen-earth restore stability. In yet other cases, Spleen deficiency fails to transport fluids from the Stomach to the four limbs, resulting in immobility; these cases can be treated with Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Significant Tonifying Decoction) with modifications based on the specific presentation.
Main Formula (for wind-phlegm congestion due to rich diet): Juhong (Citrus Reticulatae Pericarpium), Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus), Danshen (Arisaematis Cum Bile), Fuling (Poria), Baifuzi (Typhonii Rhizoma), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Gualouren (Trichosanthis Semen), Baijiezi (Brassicae Semenis Albi), Haishi (Calcitum). Each at 2 qian (approx. 6g) for Juhong, Beimu, Danshen; 1 qian (approx. 3g) for Fuling, Baifuzi, Tianma, Gualouren, Baijiezi, Haishi. Use two zhong (approx. 400ml) of water, five slices of fresh ginger, three large leaves of Pipaye (Loquat Leaf, honey-fried and de-hairy). Decoct to 8/10 volume. Add one cup of Zhuli (Bamboo Sap) and ten spoons of Jiangzhi (Fresh Ginger Juice). Take after meals.
The world generally believes that wind-pathogen strikes the Zang-Fu organs and phlegm-fluids remain in the meridians. Using only wind-dispelling and phlegm-resolving drugs often yields no effect. The external method of using eel blood hanging is particularly illogical. This must be strictly avoided! The treatment method should prioritize clearing fire and nourishing blood, or alternatively, dispersing stagnation and moving Qi. For those with wind-phlegm, treat both simultaneously, ensuring the medication is taken in a single dose. A洪 (Hong) pulse indicates blazing fire; a Se (Se) pulse indicates blood deficiency.
Main Formula: Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus). Equal parts. Decoct in water and take warm. If fire is excessive, add Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix). If constipated, add Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma). For nourishing yin, use Tiantaimen Dong (Asparagi Radix), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Ganju (Chrysanthemi Flos), Gouqi (Lycii Fructus), Wuwei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis), Renru (Human Milk). For moving Qi, use Wuyao (Linderae Radix).
The *Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic* states: When Shen (Spirit) is injured by excessive thought, flesh wastes away; when Yi (Intellect) is injured by excessive worry, limbs become disabled; when Hun (Ethereal Soul) is injured by excessive sorrow, sinews contract; when Po (Corporeal Soul) is injured by excessive joy, skin becomes dry; when Zhi (Will) is injured by excessive anger, waist and knees become difficult to flex and extend. Do not assume that limb disability and sinew contraction are always treated as wind-stroke. There are also conditions caused by the excess of the Five Emotions (Joy, Anger, Worry, Thought, Fear), invasion by the Six Excesses (Wind, Cold, Summerheat, Dampness, Dryness, Fire), qi and blood injury from overwork, essence depletion from sexual indulgence, shock from bereavement occurring at night, or collision by evil spirits. These include Jue (Syncope), Shijue (Corpse-like Syncope), Tanjue (Phlegm Syncope), Qijue (Qi Syncope), and Xuejue (Blood Syncope), all leading to sudden collapse and unconsciousness. Initially, pinch the Renzhong acupoint (GV26), induce sneezing, and apply moxibustion (see previous sections). Immediately decoct the main formula and administer together with Suhexiang Wan (Styrax Pill). It can be used for wind-cold, summerheat, and dampness strokes. Once slightly revived, carefully differentiate the syndrome name and treat according to the respective category.
Main Formula (Shesheng Yin, applicable to various apoplexies): Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, soaked in ginger juice), Nanxing (Arisaema Cum Bile, wrapped in wet paper and roasted), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), each 2.5 qian (approx. 7.5g); Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, raw), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, raw), Beixixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), each 1 qian (approx. 3g). Add seven slices of fresh ginger to the above mixture. Decoct in water, grind in Muxiang juice, and take warm. Administer together with Suhexiang Wan for better efficacy. If phlegm is excessive, add Quanxie (Scorpio, roasted and powdered), two specimens.
