The children born from Heaven and Earth, sons and daughters alike, are equally important without bias. In human life, sons and daughters are the same; flesh and bone form a single body. All are destined by Heaven, so why is there only reluctance to bear daughters? I have heard that some drown their infants in water; the tragic scene is unbearable to look at. Struggling with all their might, they cannot escape; even a stone-hearted person would sweat and weep. Considering this suffering, how can one bear to add it to one's own daughter? Parents disregard this pain, while the girl silently endures it.
Do not say the girl is ignorant; though she cannot speak, her spiritual nature is already complete, and her appearance resembles her parents closely. Who gave birth to us? Parents are like Heaven and Earth. Who kills us? It is our own parents. May I ask why this happens? It is merely due to poverty. Poverty may be predetermined by past lives, but killing a daughter cannot be atoned for. The parents do not become rich, yet the daughter becomes a vengeful ghost. A daughter has her own fortune, which does not depend on distribution by parents. If a daughter has good fate, she helps increase her parents' blessings; if her fate is thin, premature death is simply her short lifespan. Why not fulfill my compassion and keep the family united for now? The food and clothing needs of a young girl, living close together, cost very little. As she grows slightly older, she learns needlework, living a simple life of vegetables and water by the green window. Marriage does not demand heavy betrothal gifts; wearing a thorn hairpin and cloth dress is not a shame. Moreover, killing one's own daughter is actually killing another family's wife; if other families also drown daughters, where is your wife? There are many men in the world, and those without wives are frequent. Killing daughters makes girls even scarcer; will Heaven and Earth rejoice? Birds and fish are still released into freedom, insects and ants are also pardoned from death. Yet we kill our own daughters; how cruel can it get? Is there no royal law? Is there no Heavenly Principle? Royal law might be evaded, but Heavenly Principle will secretly repay you. In this life and the next, who can avoid condemnation? Alas, those who drown daughters are neither benevolent nor wise. Please listen to this song, pass it on, and advise each other.
In ancient times, seeking a doctor was like seeking a capable general. A capable general determines the life and death of the masses and the survival or destruction of the state; a doctor determines the safety, danger, life, and death of individuals, and the sorrow, joy, gathering, and parting of relatives. Is this not the most significant affair in the world! Therefore, one must not trust just anyone; one must choose someone with deep benevolence and virtue, profound and versatile learning, and practical experience, so as to revive the dying, snatch them from disaster, align with Heavenly Mandate, and comfort human hearts. Thus, those practicing medicine should be vigilant and diligent at all times, regarding saving people as virtue, and taking killing people as sin as a warning. This is clear! When facing illness, one must vow to save people, not value wealth and profit. If encountering critical conditions, one should clearly state which prescription and herbs to use, not deceitfully claim they are precious secrets to demand high prices. If the disease is indeed easy to treat, do not deliberately say it is difficult to cure, causing the patient's family to panic and worry, leading to futile exertion. If it is indeed difficult to treat, do not deliberately say it is easy to heal, causing the patient's family false joy and empty expenditure. Or, if efficacy could be achieved soon, deliberately obstruct it with medication to extort heavy rewards; or, if a previous doctor had success, deliberately fabricate slander to take credit oneself. Or, when other doctors declare hopelessness, deceive the patient claiming only one can save them. For example, in cases of consumption (Lao Zhai, tuberculosis) where the patient is skin and bones, unable to speak, yet inducing them to give rich gifts, only for them to die shortly after. Or, being devoted to wealthy families while suddenly neglecting poor ones, refusing invitations and withholding prescriptions. These various behaviors are all done by profit-seeking vulgarites, acting with ruthless cruelty against reason. How can one entrust their life and death to such people? Furthermore, current doctors, lacking self-awareness, are arrogant and jealous; they neither consult experts nor study medical books diligently. In their leisure, they play chess, drink wine, banquet, and laugh, or calculate profits. These are what is called "the waste of learning medicine," treating human life as a matter of luck. Ancestors said: Before practicing, one says there is no benefit, so one does not learn; after practicing, one says there is no time due to social engagements, so one does not learn. One must especially avoid these two excuses. Ancient good doctors dared not rely on personal opinions but strove for broad learning; they dared not stick to vulgar views but sought experience through practice; they did not cling to one or two diagnostic signs but sought infinite flexibility through intuitive understanding. Even in old age, they never put down their scrolls, remaining humble and widely consulting others. This is truly because they valued human life highly and preserved their virtue. Although the responsibility also lies with those seeking doctors, who should not lightly listen to rumors and employ many mistakes, but rather judge precisely. Human planning is primary; one decides independently, not relying solely on divination. Alas! Doctors have chests but no hearts; patients have ears but no eyes. Human life is indeed in peril.
