The *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states: "Damp-phlegm flows downward, infiltrating the Bladder Meridian to form leukorrhea," which refers specifically to obese individuals. In thin individuals, it is formed by internal fire simmering and consuming body fluids. However, leukorrhea in women is often caused by damp-heat in the Spleen and Stomach. White discharge is mostly due to Qi deficiency, while red discharge is mostly due to Blood heat. If the condition persists for a long time, it gradually turns into deficiency-cold, presenting with sallow complexion, emaciation, withered skin, haggard appearance, lethargy, and timidity, mostly resulting from the leukorrhea itself. Why? Because those infected with this disease have no external signs of illness and no internal pain, remaining hidden and unnoticed, allowing time to pass. The *Mai Jue* (Pulse Resolution) says: "Leukorrhea results from prolonged metrorrhagia; bone dryness results from prolonged metrorrhexis." Therefore, cases where Qi and Blood are gradually depleted, the body becomes emaciated, and major diseases develop are numerous.
Key to regulation: Treating the branch (symptoms) must focus on astringency. For obese patients, combine with phlegm-resolving methods; for thin patients, combine with fire-clearing methods, slightly assisted by lifting and consolidating agents. Treating the root (cause) requires regulating Qi and harmonizing Blood, followed by strengthening the Spleen and promoting dampness drainage. Formulas such as Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction), Wuling San (Five-Ling Powder), and Ginger-fried Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) may be used. Major tonification of Qi and Blood is usually not urgent, as the Spleen and Stomach are already weakened after prolonged illness. Regarding irregular menstruation, severe cases may progress to strangury or metrorrhagia, becoming critical conditions that are difficult to treat with aggressive methods. Only when the prescription matches the syndrome can efficacy be expected. If the condition persists for a long time without stopping, focus primarily on tonifying Qi and Blood, starting with the Main Formula; subsequently, take Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Significant Tonifying Decoction) removing Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), adding Vinegar-fried Shaoyao (Peony Root), Muli (Oyster Shell powder), and Yuyuliang (Haematitum). (Buzhong Yiqi Tang [Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction] is seen under Spleen and Stomach.)
