He (Harmony/Union). This meridian has abundant blood and scarce Qi. Hua Yuanhua stated: The Gallbladder is the organ of pure fluid, known as the General. It primarily stores essence without draining it.

The Liver is the official of the General, from which strategies and deliberations arise. The Liver resides below the diaphragm, attaching superiorly to the lower part of the ninth thoracic vertebra of the spine. This meridian typically has abundant blood and scarce Qi. Its external correspondence is to the tendons (Jin), its flourishing aspect manifests in the nails, it primarily stores the Hun (Ethereal Soul), opens into the eyes, its connecting channels link upward to the Heart and Lungs, and downward it has no orifice. The *Nan Jing* states: The Liver weighs two jin and four liang; the left lobe has three leaves, the right lobe has four leaves, totaling seven lobes. The *Ci Jin Lun* states: The Liver's Qi arises on the left. Shi Shou stated: As an organ, the Liver's functional governance is on the left, while its physical location is in the right hypochondrium, anterior to the right kidney, adjacent to the Stomach, and attached to the ninth thoracic vertebra of the spine.

The Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian travels along the posterior aspect of the thigh. There are thirty-six acupoints on both sides combined: (Originating at the lateral end of the little toe, traveling posterior to the three Yang meridians.)

The Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) and Du Mai (Governing Vessel) serve as the guidelines for Yin and Yang in the human body. The Ren Mai travels along the abdomen and gathers all Yin meridians, thus being called the Sea of Yin Meridians; the Du Mai travels along the back and commands all Yang meridians, thus being called the Sea of Yang Meridians. Both vessels originate at the Huiyin point (CV1). Qixuanzi stated: The *Jia Yi Jing* and *Tu Jing* refer to the pathway circulating along the back as the Du Mai, and that ascending from the lower abdomen as the Ren Mai, sometimes also referred to as the Du Mai; this distinction in naming is based solely on the Yin-Yang difference between the back and abdomen. However, the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) also originates in the Baozhong (Uterus/Pelvic Cavity) and ascends alongside the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Thus, the Ren Mai, Du Mai, and Chong Mai share a single source but branch into three. Therefore, the abdomen and back of the human body are like the Zi and Wu directions of heaven and earth; the anterior and posterior aspects of the Ren and Du are like the division of Yin and Yang by Lu Ji.

The Heart connection links to the seventh vertebral segment. Beside the seventh segment lies the "Xiao Xin" (Lesser Heart/Mind); taking the Kidney connection at the lower part of the fourteenth thoracic vertebra as the starting point, ascending upwards, it also spans seven segments.
Old diagrams depicted the seminal ducts circulating along the spine and passing through the anus, which is highly unreasonable and lacks the imagery of the Uterus and Mingmen (Gate of Vitality); these were major errors and have now been corrected.
