(The so-called "Houqi" point, commonly referred to as the "lung tube," is located in front of the pharynx. The old belief that it is located posterior to the molar teeth is entirely incorrect.) It belongs to the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: The laryngopharynx is the pathway through which Qi ascends and descends. The epiglottis is the gate of voice production. If the epiglottis is small and thin, voice production is rapid; its opening and closing are agile, and Qi exits easily; if the epiglottis is large and thick, opening and closing are difficult, Qi exit is slow, hence speech sounds double. Sudden loss of voice occurs when cold pathogen invades the epiglottis, causing it to fail to open or close properly, leading to dysfunctional opening and closing, thus resulting in aphonia. It also states: The regular branch of the Hand-Taiyin [Lung] Meridian emerges from the Clavicular Fossa (Quepen), follows the laryngopharynx. The *Su Wen* states: The Lung governs Heavenly Qi, and Heavenly Qi communicates with the Lung, which is called the Lung System. It also states: If the Autumn Pulse is deficient, it causes wheezing. Note: The Autumn Pulse refers to the Lung Pulse. It also states: Shortness of breath with cough, upward rushing Qi with hemoptysis, and pathological sounds heard from below). It also intersects with the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian and the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) (The *Ling Shu* states: The meridian of the Foot-Yangming descends from anterior to Daying, reaches Renying, follows the laryngopharynx, and enters the Clavicular Fossa. It also states: The divergent branch of the Foot-Yangming gathers the Qi of various meridians and descends to connect with the laryngopharynx. When Qi rebels, it causes sore throat and sudden pain). It also involves the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian and the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: When the Hand-Shaoyyang undergoes pathological changes, it causes swelling of the pharynx and sore throat. It also states: The regular branch of the Hand-Yangming ascends along the laryngopharynx and emerges from the Clavicular Fossa. It also states: For sore throat with inability to speak, select points on the Foot-Yangming Meridian; for those who can speak, select points on the Hand-Yangming Meridian. The *Su Wen* states: When pathogenic factors lodge in the collaterals of the Hand-Shaoyang, they cause sore throat, tongue retraction, dry mouth, and restlessness. It also states: Constriction of two Yin and one Yang is termed sore throat. Note: Two Yin refers to the Heart; One Yang refers to the Sanjiao; both meridians connect to the laryngopharynx. Internal accumulation of heat causes sore throat. It also states: Rebellion of Qi in the Hand-Yangming and Hand-Shaoyang meridians triggers sore throat, pharyngeal swelling, and spasms. Zhu Danxi stated: Manifestations arising from the combination of Hand and Foot Yin and Yang meridians are termed sore throat, involving the Hand and Foot Yangming and Hand Shaoyang meridians). It additionally pertains to the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian and the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: The regular branch of the Hand-Shaoyin ascends to the laryngopharynx and emerges on the face. It also states: The Foot-Shaoyin ascends and ties to the root of the tongue, connects to the transverse bone, and terminates at the epiglottis. The vessels of the epiglottis ascend to connect with the Ren Mai; needling Tiantu allows the epiglottis to function. The *Su Wen* states: In cases of Heart Cough, coughing is accompanied by heart pain, a sensation of something stuck in the throat like a fishbone, and in severe cases, throat swelling and sore throat). It further involves the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian and the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: The regular branch of the Hand-Jueyin diverges and follows the laryngopharynx, emerging behind the ear. Shen Chengzhi stated: The posterior aspect of the laryngopharynx belongs to the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium and Foot-Jueyin Liver meridians).
