(The axilla is the junction between the lower arm and the upper lateral chest.) It belongs to the Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin (The *Ling Shu* states: The branch of the Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin follows the chest, emerges from the hypochondrium, descends three cun below the axilla, and ascends to reach the axilla. When this meridian is in a state of abnormal movement, it causes swelling in the axilla. It also states: The regular divergent branch of the Pericardium enters three cun below the Yuanye [Yuan Ye] acupoint, entering the chest cavity. Furthermore, the sinews of the Pericardium knot at the axilla. Additionally, the area three cun below the axilla belongs to the Pericardium Meridian, and its acupoint is named Tianchi [Heavenly Pool]). It also belongs to the Lung Meridian of Hand-Taiyin and the Heart Meridian of Hand-Shaoyin (The *Ling Shu* states: The Lung Meridian of Hand-Taiyin emerges horizontally from the lung system into the axilla. It also states: The regular divergent branch of the Lung Meridian enters anterior to the Yuanye acupoint and the Heart Meridian. Moreover, the arterial pulse in the axilla belongs to the Lung Meridian of Hand-Taiyin, named Tianfu [Heavenly Mansion]. In cases of sudden heat disease with internal reversal of qi, where Liver and Lung qi clash causing blood to溢 from the nose and mouth, Tianfu should be selected. It further states: The Heart Meridian of Hand-Shaoyin originates from the heart system, moves posteriorly and ascends to the lung, then emerges downward from the axilla. It also states: The regular divergent branch of the Heart Meridian enters between the two sinews at the Yuanye region and connects to the Heart). It additionally belongs to the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin and the Large Luo Vessel of the Spleen Meridian of Foot-Taiyin (The *Ling Shu* states: When pathogenic factors affect the liver, their qi remains in both axillae. It also states: The Large Luo Vessel of the Spleen is named Dabao [Great Wrap], emerging three cun below the Yuanye acupoint, spreading over the chest and hypochondrium. In excess conditions, there is pain throughout the abdomen; in deficiency conditions, all joints become flaccid and weak. These vessels, resembling a network of collateral blood vessels, should all be treated. Shen Chengzhi stated: The center of the axilla belongs to the Pericardium and Liver meridians of Hand- and Foot-Jueyin; the anterior aspect of the axilla belongs to the Lung Meridian of Hand-Taiyin; the posterior aspect belongs to the Heart Meridian of Hand-Shaoyin; the inferior aspect belongs to the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin; six cun further down belongs to the Large Luo Vessel of the Spleen Meridian of Foot-Taiyin). It simultaneously involves the Small Intestine Meridian of Hand-Taiyang and the Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang (The *Ling Shu* states: The sinews of the Small Intestine Meridian of Hand-Taiyang knot at the axilla, with symptoms including axillary pain. It also states: The Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang descends from the Clavicle fossa into the axilla, and diseases arising from this meridian include swelling in the axilla. Furthermore, the sinews of the Gallbladder Meridian ascend from the costal margin toward the anterior edge of the axilla. Zhu Danxi stated: The manifestations generated by the convergence of the Hand- and Foot-Jueyin meridians are called axillary swelling, involving the Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin and the Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang).
