(Referring to the zygomatic bone, commonly known as the cheekbone) belongs to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian and Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: The pathway of the Hand-Shaoyang meridian emerges from the upper angle of the ear, curves downward through the cheek to this point. It also states: The branch of the Foot-Shaoyang meridian joins with the Hand-Shaoyang, reaches this point, and descends past the Jiache acupoint). It also belongs to the intersection of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian and Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: The branch of the Hand-Taiyang meridian diverges from the cheek, ascends to the side of the nose, and reaches the nasal area. It also states: The branch of the Foot-Taiyang sinew emerges from the Clavicle region, slants upward and emerges at this point). It additionally belongs to the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian and Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: The branch of the Hand-Yangming sinew ascends to the cheek and knots here. It also states: The Foot-Yangming sinew ascends flanking the mouth and converges here). It is also associated with the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: In cases of heart pain, the zygomatic area becomes red. It also states: If a red patch appearing on both cheeks is as large as a thumb, even if the illness shows slight improvement, sudden death is inevitable. Qiao Yue stated: When Heart Qi perishes, deficient Yang floats upward, causing the face to turn red like grease. Xu Bolu stated: This is like a woman applying powder to her face and rouge to her cheeks. White is the sign of the Lung; red is the sign of the Heart. Wang Bing's commentary explains this as Fire overcoming Metal. This represents pathogenic factors coming from the organ that does not overcome it, termed "Thief Pathogen" (Ze Xie); such illnesses are incurable. Note: Fu is synonymous with Fu/attach). It also belongs to the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: In kidney diseases, the cheeks and forehead turn black. It also states: The zygomatic bone is the root of the bones; large zygomatic bones indicate large bones, while small zygomatic bones indicate small bones).
(Referring to the sides of the face) belongs to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian and Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: Diseases generated by the Hand-Shaoyang meridian include pain at the outer canthus of the eye and cheek pain. It also states: If pathogenic factors strike the cheek, it affects the Foot-Shaoyang meridian. It also states: When Shaoyang Qi arrives, biting of the cheek occurs. The *Su Wen* states: In Shaoyang Jue syndrome, there is sudden deafness, swelling, and heat in the cheeks. It also states: When the color of the Shaoyang meridian manifests on the cheeks, it indicates a previous febrile disease. Note: The location of the Foot-Shaoyang meridian is in the cheek. Color refers to redness. 'Qian' should be corrected to 'Jin' (sinew/tendon) according to the *Jia Yi Jing*). It also belongs to the intersection of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian and Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: The branch of the Foot-Yangming sinew originates from the cheek and knots anterior to the ear. If the sinews of the cheek are affected by cold, they become tense, pulling the cheek and causing deviation. The *Su Wen* states: At the Earth position of the Upper Region, the arteries of the two cheeks are used to observe the Qi of the mouth and teeth. The commentary notes: Located on both sides below the nostrils, near the region of the Juliao acupoint, pulsating under the fingers, this is where the Qi of the Foot-Yangming meridian travels). It is also associated with the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian (The *Su Wen* states: In patients with Liver Heat disease, the left cheek turns red first; in patients with Lung Heat disease, the right cheek turns red first. It also states: Rebellious Qi of the Liver causes swelling of the cheeks. The *Ling Shu* states: The branch of the Foot-Jueyin meridian descends from the connection of the eye, passing through the interior of the cheek).
