The Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) has twenty-four acupoints, distributed along the abdomen and chest. Starting from Huiyin (CV1), followed by Qugu (CV2); Zhongji (CV3), Guanyuan (CV4), and Shimen (CV5) are accessible; Qihai (CV6), Yinjiao (CV7), Shenque (CV8), and Shuifen (CV9). Xiawan (CV10) and Jianli (CV11), as well as Zhongwan (CV12) and Shangwan (CV13); Juque (CV14) and Jiutui (CV15), along with Zhongting (CV16) and Danzhong (CV17). Yutang (CV18), Zigong (CV19), and Huagai (CV20); Xuanji (CV21) is located above Tiantu (CV22), drinking from Lianquan (CV23), and Chengjiang (CV24) blends the flavor.
Huiyin of the Ren Mai is located between the two yin organs; Qugu is secured in the depression at the pubic hairline; Zhongji is taken four cun below the umbilicus; Guanyuan connects three cun below the umbilicus. Two cun below the umbilicus is named Shimen; one and a half cun below the umbilicus completes Qihai; one cun below the umbilicus is the Yinjiao point; the center of the umbilicus is Shenque. One cun above the umbilicus is Shuifen; two cun above the umbilicus lists Xiawan. Three cun above the umbilicus is named Jianli; four cun above the umbilicus is Zhongwan; five cun above the umbilicus is Shangwan; Juque is six cun and five fen above the umbilicus. Jiutui is five fen below the xiphoid process; Zhongting is taken six cun below Danzhong; Danzhong is indeed between the two breasts; Yutang governs one cun and six fen above Danzhong; Zigong is three cun and two fen above Danzhong; Huagai is raised four cun and eight fen above Danzhong. Xuanji enters five cun above Danzhong; Tiantu protrudes one cun above Xuanji; Tiantu is approximately four cun below the laryngeal prominence; Lianquan is at the tip of the hyoid bone under the chin; Chengjiang is below the lip ridge on the front of the chin; the Ren Mai travels centrally within the abdomen.
"Du" means to command or direct; the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) runs along the midline of the back and serves as the chief guideline for all Yang meridians; it is one of the Eight Extraordinary Vessels.
Its manifestations include stiffness of the spine and coldness/numbness of the lower back.
Its pulse originates from the lowest part (the uterus/cyst), ascends along Changqiang (GV1) inside the spine, passing through Yaoshu (GV2), Yangguan (GV3), Mingmen (GV4), Xuanxu (GV5), Jizhong (GV6), Zhongshu (GV7), Jinsuo (GV8), Zhiyang (GV9), Lingtai (GV10), Shendao (GV11), Shenzhu (GV12), passing through Fengmen (BL12) of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, following Taodao (GV13), Dazhui (GV14), and Yamen (GV15), reaching Fengfu (GV16) to enter the brain, following Naohu (GV17), Qiangjian (GV18), and Houding (GV19) to the vertex Baihui (GV20), passing through Qianding (GV21), Xinhui (GV22), Shangxing (GV23), and Shenting (GV24), following the forehead to the nasal bridge, passing through Suliao (GV25), Shuigou (GV26), Duanduan (GV27), ending at Yinjiao (GV28); its branch originates from the central bone below the lower abdomen, entering the terminal end of the vaginal opening in women; its fine collaterals follow the genitalia, converge at the perineum, circle behind the perineum, separately circle the buttocks, reach the midpoint between Shaoyin and Taiyang, converge at the posterior medial aspect of the thigh, penetrate the spine and attach to the Kidney. It starts with the Foot-Taiyang at the inner canthus of the eye, ascends to the forehead, crosses the vertex, enters the brain, emerges again descending separately down the neck, follows the shoulder blade interior, flanking the spine to reach the middle of the waist, enters along the paraspinal muscles to connect with the Kidney; in men, it follows the penis down to the perineum, equal to women; the straight branch rising from the lower abdomen penetrates the center of the umbilicus, ascends through the heart, enters the throat, reaches the chin, circles the lips, and ascends to connect between the eyes.
