肺痈之候，口干喘满，咽燥而渴，甚则四肢浮肿，咳嗽脓血，或腥臭浊味，胸中隐隐而
微痛者，肺痈也。大凡肺痈当咳嗽短气，胸满时垂，脓血久久如梗米粥者难治；若呕脓而不
止者，亦不可治也；其呕而脓自止者自愈；其面色当白而反赤者，此火克金，不可治也。
第一次服四剂∶
苡仁 条芩 苦丝瓜 甘草各一钱 赤芍 贝母 桔梗 栝蒌 广皮 升麻 丹皮
各钱二分 黑枣二个 姜一片
食后煎服。如大便不通，加麻仁。
第二次服四剂∶
赤芍 贝母 花粉 甘草 栝蒌 桔梗 知母 百合 独活 杏仁 连翘各等分

第三次服四剂∶

果照前服，以后白鲞、红萝卜、鸭蛋终身不可食。食则后发不治。大荤一年后方可吃，如斋

肺痈的证候表现为：口干、气喘且胸满，咽喉干燥而口渴，严重时四肢浮肿，咳嗽伴有脓血，或咳出腥臭浑浊的痰液，胸部隐隐作痛且微痛的，这是肺痈。大凡肺痈应当出现咳嗽、气短、胸部胀满、时常垂闷（气息不畅），若脓血经久不愈如米粥状者难治；若呕吐脓血不止者，也不可治愈；若呕吐后脓血自止者，则病自愈；其面色本应苍白反而发红者，此为火克金（心火刑肺），不可治愈。
第一次服用四剂：
薏苡仁、黄芩、苦丝瓜、甘草各一钱，赤芍、贝母、桔梗、瓜蒌、广陈皮、升麻、丹皮各钱二分，黑枣二枚，生姜一片。
饭后煎服。如果大便不通，加火麻仁。
第二次服用四剂：
赤芍、贝母、天花粉、甘草、瓜蒌、桔梗、知母、百合、独活、杏仁、连翘各等分，灯心草适量。
饭后煎服。
第三次服用四剂：
贝母、独活、百合、甘草、桔梗、麦冬、赤芍、知母、天花粉、瓜蒌各等分，灯心草、白果，照前法服用。此后终身不可食用大白鲞（咸鱼）、红萝卜、鸭蛋。吃了这些食物会导致病情复发且无法治愈。大荤肉类需一年后方可食用，如能保持斋戒更好。
另一单方：绿橘叶洗净，捣烂绞取汁液一盏服用，吐出脓血即痊愈。（出自《单方全集》）
屡验方（治疗肺痈未成脓即消散，已成脓即溃破，已溃破即愈合。神效）
桔梗一钱，薏苡仁五钱，贝母一钱六分，黄芪（炒）一钱，金银花一钱，甘草节一钱二分，陈皮一钱二分，白及一钱，甜葶苈（炒）八分。
水两钟煎至半量，加生姜一片，饭后徐徐服用。初起时加防风一钱，去掉黄芪；溃破后加人参一钱；久不收敛加槿树皮一钱，服用。（李士林新定方）

胁痈
金银花五钱，川贝母二钱，皂角刺、连翘各钱半，穿山甲片、赤芍各三钱，白芷一钱五分，地榆五钱，甘草节一钱，当归二钱，夏枯草一两（煎汁兑入药中，后下），鼠粘子（牛蒡子）钱半，紫花地丁一两，生菊花根一两（捣汁兑入药中）。

天蛇头

The manifestations of Lung Abscess (Fei Yong) include dry mouth, panting with chest fullness, dry throat and thirst. In severe cases, there is edema of the four limbs, coughing up pus and blood, or expectorating foul-smelling turbid sputum, with a dull, slight pain in the chest; this is Lung Abscess. Generally, Lung Abscess presents with cough, shortness of breath, chest fullness, and frequent sighing or heaviness. If pus and blood persist for a long time resembling rice gruel, it is difficult to treat; if vomiting of pus does not stop, it is incurable; if vomiting stops the pus spontaneously, the disease will heal itself; if the complexion should be pale but appears red instead, this indicates Fire overcoming Metal (Xin Huo Xing Fei), which is incurable.
First course: Four doses.
Coix Seed (Yi Yi Ren), Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin), Bitter Loofah (Ku Si Gua), Licorice Root (Gan Cao) each 1 qian; Red Peony Root (Chi Shao), Fritillaria Bulb (Bei Mu), Platycodon Root (Jie Geng), Trichosanthes Fruit (Gua Lou), Tangerine Peel (Guang Pi), Cimicifuga Rhizome (Sheng Ma), Moutan Cortex (Dan Pi) each 0.2 qian; Black Dates (Hei Zao) 2 pieces; Ginger slice 1 piece.
Decoct and take after meals. If constipation occurs, add Hemp Seed (Ma Ren).
Second course: Four doses.
Red Peony Root (Chi Shao), Fritillaria Bulb (Bei Mu), Trichosanthes Root (Hua Fen), Licorice Root (Gan Cao), Trichosanthes Fruit (Gua Lou), Platycodon Root (Jie Geng), Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhi Mu), Lily Bulb (Bai He), Angelica Pubescens Root (Du Huo), Apricot Kernel (Xing Ren), Forsythia Fruit (Lian Qiao) in equal parts; Juncus Effusus (Deng Xin) appropriate amount.
Decoct and take after meals.
Third course: Four doses.
Fritillaria Bulb (Bei Mu), Angelica Pubescens Root (Du Huo), Lily Bulb (Bai He), Licorice Root (Gan Cao), Platycodon Root (Jie Geng), Ophiopogon Tuber (Mai Dong), Red Peony Root (Chi Shao), Anemarrhena Rhizome (Zhi Mu), Trichosanthes Root (Hua Fen), Trichosanthes Fruit (Gua Lou) in equal parts; Juncus Effusus (Deng Xin), White Fruit (Bai Guo) as previously directed. Thereafter, never consume salted fish (Bai Xiang), red radish, or duck eggs for life. Consumption of these foods will cause recurrence that is incurable. Heavy meat may be eaten only after one year; abstinence is even better.
Another single prescription: Wash green tangerine leaves thoroughly, crush and squeeze out one cup of juice, drink it. Vomiting pus and blood leads to recovery. (From *Dan Fang Quan Ji*)
Repeatedly Effective Prescription (Treats Lung Abscess: dissipates before suppuration, drains after suppuration, heals after drainage. Divine efficacy.)
Platycodon Root (Jie Geng) 1 qian, Coix Seed (Yi Yi Ren) 5 qian, Fritillaria Bulb (Bei Mu) 1.6 qian, Astragalus Root (Huang Qi) (stir-fried) 1 qian, Honeysuckle Flower (Jin Yin Hua) 1 qian, Licorice Knot (Gan Cao Jie) 1.2 qian, Tangerine Peel (Chen Pi) 1.2 qian, Bletilla Tuber (Bai Ji) 1 qian, Sweet Descurainia Seed (Ting Li Zi) (stir-fried) 0.8 fen.
Decoct with two zhong of water until half remains, add one slice of ginger, and take slowly after meals. At the onset, add Saposhnikovia Root (Fang Feng) 1 qian and remove Astragalus Root (Huang Qi); after drainage, add Ginseng Root (Ren Shen) 1 qian; if healing is delayed, add Hibiscus Bark (Jin Pi Shu) 1 qian and take. Intestinal Abscess (Chang Yong) (Lower abdomen is hard like a palm and hot, painful upon pressure, skin color remains normal, or slightly red and swollen, frequent urination, sweating with aversion to cold, tight pulse.)

Hanging Abscess (Xuan Yong) (Located at the junction anterior to the anus and posterior to the root of the penis. Initially the size of a pine cone, gradually shrinking to the size of a lotus seed, after dozens of days resembling a plum or peach. Suitable treatment:)
Licorice Root Tip (Gan Cao Shao) 4 liang. Decoct in water and take; recovery follows. External use: Rhubarb Root (Da Huang) 3 qian, Calcined Gypsum (Shu Shi Gao) 1 liang, Zijin Pill (Zijin Ding) 1 pill. Crush together and mix for administration.
Alternative method: Use large Glycyrrhiza (Da Fen Cao) 4 liang, soak in running water until saturated, roast over charcoal fire until dry, then soak and roast again three times. Slice. Combine with Angelica Sinensis Body (Gui Shen) 3 liang, three bowls of water. Simmer slowly, strain dregs, then simmer again until thick and concentrated. Take 3 qian per dose, dissolve paste in one cup of good wine, take on an empty stomach. Dissipates before suppuration, drains after suppuration, closes wound after drainage. (From *Dan Fang Quan Ji*)
Straddle Horse Abscess (Kua Ma Yong) (Suppuration is highly desirable.)
Astragalus Root (Huang Qi) 3 qian, Ginseng Root (Ren Shen) 2 qian, Ligusticum Rhizome (Chuan Xiong), Angelica Sinensis (Dang Gui) each 1 qian, Angelica Dahurica Root (Bai Zhi), Cinnamon Twig (Guan Gui), Licorice Root (Gan Cao), Saposhnikovia Root (Fang Feng) each 0.5 fen.
One dose stops pain; subsequent doses cause internal drainage. Ten doses promote flesh regeneration. (From *Xindu Zhi Yan*)
Eyelid/Cloudy Abscess (Yi Yong)
Five-claw Dragon (Wu Zhao Long) with roots crushed to extract juice. Take with wine, four to five times daily. Pus discharges via stool. Non-suppurative stage resolves internally. If there is a head, apply the dregs topically.
Snake Head (Tian She Tou)
Centipede (Wu Gong) 1 piece, Realgar (Xiong Huang) 3 qian.
Grind both into fine powder. Mix with egg white and apply externally; recovery follows. Alternative: Place Realgar powder 0.5 fen and Centipede powder 0.5 fen inside a pig gallbladder, fit onto the finger, and tie tightly; recovery follows. (From *Dan Fang Quan Ji*)
