Although it is clearly known that the condition is caused by contracting wind-cold, only Shenghua Tang (Decoction for Generating New Blood) should be taken. It should be administered continuously for two or three doses until the fever subsides and pain ceases, at which point the medication should be stopped. One must absolutely not add other medicines in advance. The properties of Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong) and Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Dried Ginger) within the formula also have the effect of dispersing pathogenic factors. One must be cautious and absolutely avoid using formulas containing Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang) or Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu), as diaphoresis (sweating to release the exterior) can further deplete the postpartum constitution. If, after taking three or four doses, the headache remains unchanged, one may add four or five scallion heads with roots intact, or use scallions added to dried fish soup to accompany the meal.
It is advisable to take Shengwa Tang for two or three doses. If the symptoms are not relieved, add Guizhi Twig (Guizhi) 7-8 fen to dispel cold, and grind Muxiang Root (Aucklandiae Radix) 1 fen. One must absolutely not misdiagnose this as hypochondriac pain due to cold invasion and use Chaihu Tang (Bupleurum Decoction) to induce sweating, which would further weaken the postpartum state.
It is advisable to take Shenghua Tang, adding Guizhi Twig (Guizhi) 5 fen to dispel cold and alleviate pain. If the pain does not cease after two doses, add Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu); or add three slices of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Dried Ginger) into Shenghua Tang to assist blood circulation. If one uses only various hot-natured drugs to attack the cold, although the pain may stop, bleeding will inevitably increase, posing a risk of sudden profuse uterine bleeding (beng) and dizziness. One must absolutely avoid using emetic or diaphoretic hot-natured drugs, which would further deplete the postpartum body.
No modifications are necessary; only Shenghua Tang should be taken to clear heat and alleviate pain. This reiterates that diaphoresis is contraindicated in the postpartum period, summarizing the previous three conditions.
Taking Shenghua Tang for several doses will naturally resolve the alternating chills and fever. If excessive sweating has led to deficiency, take the tonifying formulas from this volume. One must absolutely avoid using formulas containing Polygalae Radix (Changshan) or Arecae Semen Preparatum (Caoguo) to treat malaria, as this would deplete the postpartum constitution.
It is advisable to take Shenghua Tang, adding Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi) 5 fen, Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng) 5 fen, Amomi Fructus Rotundus (Baishadoukou) 5 fen, and grind Muxiang Root (Aucklandiae Radix) 1 fen. One must absolutely rely solely on Chenpi, Jiegeng, and Baishadoukou, as this would deplete the postpartum constitution.
It is advisable to take Shenghua Tang, adding Almond Seed (Xingren) 10 grains, Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu) 1 qian, Asparagi Radix (Tian dong) 1 qian, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) 4 fen, and Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng) 5 fen. If there is phlegm, add Exocarpium Citri Grandis (Juhong) 4 fen and Polygonati Rhizoma (Huafen) 8 fen. If there is sweating, take the tonifying formulas from this volume; do not use formulas that disperse wind-cold.
It is advisable to take Shenghua Tang, adding Stir-fried Medicated Leaven (Shenqu) 1 qian and Hordeum Vulgare Sprout (Maiya) 5 fen to digest wheat and rice products; add four Hawthorn Fruit (Shanzha); and Amomi Fructus (Sharen) 5 fen to digest meat products. If the food stagnation is due to cold damage, add Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu) 1 qian and Guizhi Twig (Guizhi) 5 fen; if the hypochondriac pain is due to cold-damaged food stagnation, add Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui) 7 fen. One must absolutely rely solely on digestive aids, as this would damage Qi and Blood, leading to postpartum deficiency.
