Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Bai Fuling (Poria), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (all in equal parts).
Grind the above herbs into powder. For administration, take two qian (approx. 6-9g depending on historical measurement context, usually small dose for children), add one cup of water, one slice of fresh ginger, and two leaves of Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), and decoct together. For children under two years old, divide into four or five doses; for children over five years old, divide into two doses. My family once prepared this medicine. Whenever a child had fever, regardless of whether it was caused by Wind-Cold (Shanghan) or Wind-Heat, administering this powder several times often resulted in recovery. Taking Xiao Hei Gao (Black Ointment) concurrently is even more effective.
Tiannanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma Praeparatum) (select one large tuber, burn until red-hot, place in a small bottle, seal tightly with wet paper, allow the fire to extinguish, then remove and scrape the center, retaining only the white part, sized like a soap bean; need to burn several tubers and select those of suitable size for use); Wutou (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (one piece); Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) (a handful); Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix) (five qian). Grind each herb separately into powder.
Mix the powders with honey. Administer with decoction of Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus), dosage the size of a bean, frequent administration. If tendons become relaxed or tense, add Rushen (Boswelliae Resina) and administer with Congbai decoction. Doctor Fu from Runzhou specialized in selling this medicine.
To prevent scars from smallpox/variolous eruptions, frequently remove the scabs, do not let them adhere to the skin, so that no scar will form. Even if removal causes slight bleeding, simply apply Mian Gao (Facial Ointment), and there will be no harm. Patients with eruptions must not consume chicken or duck eggs, as this will immediately cause blindness, with pupils turning the color of an egg yolk; the response is as accurate as divine intervention, so one must not fail to heed this warning.
All conditions should be treated promptly. If not treated quickly, toxic pathogens will enter the Zang organs, inevitably leading to critical condition; it is appropriate to take this prescription.
Zhu Xue (Porcinis Sanguis) (collect in the twelfth lunar month, store in a bottle, hang in a ventilated place to dry).
Take half the size of a jujube kernel of dried pig blood, add a soybean-sized amount of Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum), and mix with warm wine for administration. Doctor Pan added Ludou (Vigna radiata), Ying Fen, and pieces of half-jujube size, grinding them together. If the disease is mild, taking it will eliminate symptoms; if severe, taking it will cause the eruptions to manifest and heal. My young daughter suffered from Shanghan (Cold Damage), experiencing severe abdominal pain, crying day and night, cold extremities, gradually progressing to drowsiness and confusion, with extremely severe physical symptoms. This coincided with an epidemic of eruptive diseases. I suspected something serious and consulted a doctor to suppress the condition with medication, but we did not have this medicine stored at home. I urgently bought some fresh blood from a butcher. It was midsummer, and the blood had already spoiled and become foul upon arrival, making it unusable...
For conditions involving excessive salivary phlegm, malaria, chronic dysentery, vomiting milk, afternoon fever, and convulsions/epilepsy.
Chensha (Cinnabaris), Fenshuang (Calomelas), Nifen (Hydrargyri Chloridum Solubile / Calomel) (each one fen); Sheng Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum) (one qian).
Grind the above ingredients and bind with soft glutinous rice paste to make pills, sized like mung beans. One-year-old infants take one pill, administered with Gancao Tang (Licorice Decoction). Adults take seven pills.
