Whenever a woman suffers from disease and depletion for ten days, a month, or even half a year, menstrual cessation invariably occurs. This is due to the exhaustion of Yin fluids, leading to blood dryness, representing a critical condition. Gradual nourishment is required to restore life. If menstruation has been absent for a long time, treatment becomes extremely difficult. However, to prevent dryness, nothing is better than nourishing Ying (Nutritive) Blood; to promote flow, nothing is better than replenishment. Just as snow melts naturally, spring menses will arrive on their own; when blood is abundant, meridians will flow freely. Using herbs such as Tao Ren (Persicae Semen) and Hong Hua (Carthami Flos) at this stage is akin to squeezing out all the juice, which is not a proper therapeutic method.
For blood-depletion amenorrhea, Wuzei Wan (Cuttlefish Bone Pill) is generally used. In cases where Kidney Water fails to control Heart Fire, presenting with night fever, night sweats, irritability, thirst, and cough, decoctions such as Yiyersanwu Yin (One-Two-Three-Four-Five Yin Decoction) are appropriate. When desires are unfulfilled, causing stagnation in the Heart and Spleen, Xiaoyao Yin (Free and Easy Wanderer Decoction) is indicated. For deficiency of the Three Yin (Liver, Spleen, Kidney) without cold or heat signs, indicating balanced Zang organs, Xiaoying Jian (Small Nourishing Decoction), Wufu Yin (Five Blessings Decoction), Zuogui Yin (Left Restoring Decoction), or Zuogui Wan (Left Restoring Pill) are suitable. For Three Yin deficiency accompanied by Yang deficiency, Daying Jian (Great Nourishing Decoction), Liyin Jian (Regulating Yin Decoction), Yougui Yin (Right Restoring Decoction), Yougui Wan (Right Restoring Pill), or Bawei Dihuang Tang/Wan (Eight-Ingredient Rehmannia Decoction/Pill) are appropriate.

Burning sensation in the soles of the feet indicates deficient Fire scorching Yin, leading to the exhaustion of Yongquan (KI1).
Hoarseness and inability to speak indicate the exhaustion of Kidney Qi. Sound originates from the throat but roots in the Kidney. The Classics state: "Internal depletion leading to Jue (reversal) results in aphonia and paralysis." This is due to Kidney Qi deficiency causing panting, Yin deficiency causing Lung Qi rejection, and Qi having no place to return. Additionally, it may be caused by Water failing to control Fire, leading to the rushing upward of the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel).
Dry throat and sore throat indicate true Yin deficiency and deficient Fire flaming upward.
Insomnia and mental confusion indicate that Blood fails to nourish the Heart, preventing the Shen (Spirit) from residing within. Alternatively, Kidney Water fails to ascend to control Heart Fire.

Phlegm resembling clear water without thirst indicates water flooding transforming into phlegm, due to the Spleen's failure to control water.
Profuse white foamy phlegm with thirst indicates water boiling into phlegm due to Yin Fire simmering. It is appropriate to strengthen Water to control Ministerial Fire.
Palpitations in the epigastrium indicate Qi failing to return to essence. The Classics state: "The great collateral of the Stomach is named Xuli, emerging below the left breast; its movement is visible through clothing, indicating leakage of Zong (Gathering) Qi." To gather Qi back to its source, only the method of tonifying Yin to match Yang is effective.
Yellow, astringent, dribbling urination indicates true Yin deficiency and failure of Qi transformation to process water.
Emaciation indicates Jing (Essence) failing to generate Qi. Furthermore, nothing dries things more than Fire; this indicates vigorous Yin Fire. If muscles are extremely wasted, prolonged Yin Fire burning is difficult to treat; if caused by fatigue injuring the Spleen, Shiquan Dabu Tang (Complete Great Tonifying Decoction) is indicated.
Fearfulness indicates Fire arising from the Heart, or Heart injury causing unstable Shen.
Nail pain indicates extreme Wood and tendon deficiency, with Metal Qi invading. Pig fat (Zhugao) can be used to nourish tendons.

Dull pain in the chest and diaphragm indicates Kidney deficiency failing to grasp Qi, causing Qi stagnation above and poor flow. Tonifying Yin must include grasping Qi.
Dizziness in deficiency conditions indicates upper Jiao Yang Qi deficiency, or Yin/Blood deficiency causing rebellious Qi rushing upward.
Palpitations and restlessness indicate Blood deficiency or Phlegm. Diseases in any Zang organ can interact with Pericardium Fire to cause palpitations; treatment involves tonifying or reducing based on the affected organ, regulating via the Pericardium. If heat shifts from other organs to the Heart, causing Pericardium Fire agitation, treatment follows the same principle.
Forgetfulness indicates insufficient Heart Blood, with Phlegm and Fire disturbing the Shen. Alternatively, Kidney insufficiency leads to weak Zhi (Will), failing to connect to the Heart.
Discomfort in the Danzhong (Chest center) arises because anger causes Qi to rise and fear causes Qi to sink, disrupting the Danzhong. Chai Hu, Fu Ling (Poria), and Ze Xie (Alisma) can regulate Qi ascent and descent; Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) may also be used to calm rebellion.
Chest oppression, preferring dark places and avoiding people, known as Beidun (Low-spiritedness), indicates Blood deficiency. Yangying Tang (Nourishing Ying Decoction) modified is indicated.
Feeling an extra self outside one's body, known as Li Hun (Departing Soul), indicates Heart Qi deficiency. Tonifying the Heart alone will stabilize the Hun (Ethereal Soul).
Hair loss indicates Kidney exhaustion with Fire flaming, Lung failing in regulation, and internal Wind stirring.
Head sweating in weak individuals indicates Kidney Water deficiency and excess Kidney Fire. Nourish Kidney and clear Lung using Sang Ye (Mori Folium), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Wu Wei Zi, and Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Tuber) made into honey pills; cure takes two months. Using astringents will cause blurred vision and deafness.
Head sweating during meals indicates Stomach Fire excess. Guben Wan (Root-Firming Pill) added with Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Wu Wei Zi, and Suan Zao Ren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen) is indicated.
Inability to walk with both legs indicates Liver/Kidney deficiency and insufficient Jing-Blood. It may also be due to Qi deficiency failing to move; Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) plus Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Tie Shi Hu (Dendrobii Officinalis Caulis), and Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) are indicated.
Bitter, stiff tongue root and inability to swallow saliva indicate the Spleen failing to circulate Qi in the Three Yin.
Vexing pain in hands and feet and reluctance to move indicate emptiness of flesh and bones.
Poor appetite and gradual muscle wasting indicate Spleen Yuan failing to hold, with digestive mechanisms deteriorating daily.

Good appetite and rapid digestion in deficiency indicate Yin deficiency and vigorous Fire accelerating transmission.
Shortness of breath and dry mouth indicate Qi insufficiency failing to transform fluids, and Metal受制 (controlled) by Fire.
Qi rebelling to the left hypochondrium with vomiting of sour fluid, and a wiry, rapid, soggy pulse, indicate Fire depression and Liver Blood dryness.
Heat burning upon pressing to the bone indicates Kidney Heat overwhelming the bones. Wu Mei (Mume Fructus) alone can guide herbs into the bones and absorb the heat.
Dark, emaciated face, ichthyosis-like skin, and inability to eat indicate Blood stasis in the Stomach, with Central Earth losing irrigation, representing extreme deficiency.
Profuse sweating indicates fluids escaping outward with heat throughout the day and night; Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) should be used urgently.
Dreams of sexual intercourse with spirits indicate true Yin exhaustion, Blood Sea stasis, post-menopausal steaming heat, or similar symptoms. Tonifying Blood with Ren Shen is indicated.

Lower abdominal tension and painful urination indicate internal decline of True Yang.
Chills, unhappiness, and Five Hearts Heat indicate Heavy Yin covering Yang, preventing Fire from extending. Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) and Chai Hu should be used to lift.
Ulcers on the lower lip indicate Blood stasis and Ying deficiency with fever, steaming stagnant Blood into "worms," constituting Chuanshi Lao (Transmitting Consumption Tuberculosis).
Cold feet in any Yin/Yang pattern result from lower deficiency; differentiation is required. Lung Qi deficiency causes reversal and failure to reach extremities.
