Use the leaves of Ricinus communis (Castor Bean) that have nine angles; they are considered superior. Process Borneolum Stannicum (Feifei Baifan, 飞过白矾) and grind into powder. Apply the medicine onto a paper strip and insert it intravaginally.
Method of Sprinkling Medicine
First, wash the vulva with a decoction prepared from the roots of Bambusa textilis (Danzhugen, 淡竹根). Then, use Powder of Galae Cinnamomi (Wubeizi, 五倍子) and Borneolum Stannicum (Baifan, 白矾) ground into fine powder, sprinkled dry directly onto the affected area for immediate effect.
Method of Applying Medicine
Cleanse the affected area with warm saline solution to soften it. Subsequently, fumigate the area with smoke generated by burning Flos Trogopterori (Wulingzhi, 五灵脂). Next, grind Semen Ricini (Bimazi, 蓖麻子) into a paste and apply it topically to facilitate absorption. If the medication enters the vagina, wash it out immediately.
[Coldness of the Yin]
[General Discussion] Coldness in the female yin is caused by labor injury damaging the Zi Zang (uterus), allowing Wind-Cold pathogens to lodge within.
[Xue Ji] The aforementioned syndrome belongs to Damp-Heat within the Liver Channel, compounded by external invasion of Wind-Cold. If there is dysuria or distending pain in the lower abdomen, use Longdan Xiegan Tang (Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction). If there is internal heat with alternating chills and fever, or irregular menstruation, use Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder). If there is alternating chills and fever, physical fatigue, poor appetite, and lack of desire to eat, use Jiawei Sijunzi Tang (Modified Four Gentlemen Decoction). If there is fever due to depression and anger, insomnia, and reluctance to eat, use Jiawei Guipi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction).
One woman suffered from coldness in the yin, yellow and obstructed urine, internal heat with alternating chills and fever, bitter taste in the mouth, and flank distension. This was due to Damp-Heat in the Liver Channel. She was treated with Longdan Tang (Gentian Decoction) to drain and eliminate Damp-Heat, followed by Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) to regulate and tonify Qi and Blood, resulting in recovery. Another woman presented with similar symptoms but also had alternating chills and fever, vomiting, and swelling and pain in both thighs. She was first given one dose of Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) plus Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi, 山栀), which instantly stopped the chills, fever, and vomiting. Subsequently, one dose of Longdan Xiegan Tang (Gentian Liver-Draining Decoction) instantly eliminated the swelling and pain. A third woman suffered from coldness in the yin, clear urine, coldness in the abdomen, poor appetite, and loose stools. This indicated deficiency-cold of the Lower Yuan. She was treated with Bawei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill) for over a month; her appetite gradually increased, and stools became formed. After another month, all symptoms resolved completely.
Wujia Pi Infused Wine Formula
(From *Shenghui Fang*) Treats hysterotheca (masses in the abdomen) and coldness of the yin in women.
Radix Acanthopanacis Senticosi (Wujia pi, 五加皮), Radix Rehmanniae Preparata (Shugan Dihuang, 熟干地黄), Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae (Danshen, 丹参), Radix Eucommiae (Duzhong, 杜仲 - remove coarse bark, stir-bake until slightly yellow), Semen Cnidii (Shechuangzi, 蛇床子), Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (Ganjiang, 干姜) (each 3 liang);
Cortex Lycii (Digupi, 地骨皮) (2 liang);
Herba Asparagi (Tianmendong, 天门冬) (1 liang);
Concha Ostreae (Zhongru, 钟乳) (4 liang).
Finely chop the above ingredients, place them in a raw silk bag, and soak in 15 sheng of wine for two nights. Warm one large cup per dose and take on an empty stomach and before evening meal. An alternative formula uses Fructus Lycii (Gouqizi, 枸杞子) instead of Cortex Lycii (Digupi, 地骨皮).
Formula for Treating Coldness of the Yin in Women (From *Daquan Liangfang*)
Radix Polygalae (Yuanzhi, 远志), Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (Ganjiang, 干姜 - used raw), Lotus Flower (Lianhua, 莲花) (each 0.5 liang);
Semen Cnidii (Shechuangzi, 蛇床子), Fructus Schisandrae (Wuweizi, 五味子) (each 1 liang).
Pulverize the above ingredients. For each application, mix with rabbit feces applied to the vulva, wrap 1 qian of the powder in cotton, and insert it into the vagina. Heat sensation indicates efficacy.
Another Formula
Semen Cnidii (Shechuangzi, 蛇床子) (3 fen), Fructus Evodiae (Wuzhuyu, 吴茱萸), Herba Descurainiae (Tiantili, 甜葶苈) (each 0.5 liang);
Fructus Chebulae (Moushi, 没石子) (1 piece).
Pulverize the above ingredients. Wrap in cotton to the size of a jujube, insert into the vagina, until warmth is felt in the abdomen.
Another Formula
Semen Cnidii (Shechuangzi, 蛇床子) (1 liang), Fructus Evodiae (Wuzhuyu, 吴茱萸) (1.5 liang, used raw).
Pulverize the above ingredients, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of a sour jujube seed. Wrap in cotton and insert into the vagina, until foul discharge is expelled. (An alternative formula adds Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香).)
Warm-Middle Vaginal Suppository
Use Semen Cnidii (Shechuangzi, 蛇床子) powder mixed with a small amount of white starch powder. Form into pills the size of a jujube, wrap in cotton, and insert into the vagina. Natural warmth will ensue, indicating efficacy.
Bawei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill) Treats blood deficiency failing to nourish the Zang-Fu organs, withered and obstructed body fluids, and Wind-Cold lodging in the uterus, leading to coldness of the yin. (See General Diseases, Deficiency Consumption chapter.)
Note: This pill indeed has miraculous effects for cases of Liver, Spleen, and Kidney deficiency.
Formulas for the antenatal and postnatal periods are detailed in their respective sections.
[Bleeding and Pain upon Intercourse] [Xue Ji] One woman experienced bleeding and pain during every act of intercourse. This was due to Liver Fire disturbing the Spleen, causing failure to control blood. She was cured using Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) and Jisheng Guipi Tang (Sage’s Guipi Decoction). If excessive bleeding leads to other syndromes, simply use the aforementioned medicines to regulate and tonify the Liver and Spleen.
*Qianjin Fang* treats women who bleed upon intercourse.
Cortex Cinnamomi (Guixin, 桂心), Dragon’s Liver and Gall (Fulonggan, 伏龙肝) (each 2 fen). Pulverize and take 1 cunbi (square-inch spoonful) with wine to stop bleeding.
Another Formula
Rhizoma Coptidis (Huanglian, 黄连) (6 fen), Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae (Niuxi, 牛膝), Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 甘草) (each 4 fen).
Finely chop the above three ingredients. Boil in 4 sheng of water to obtain 2 sheng of decoction. Use this liquid to wash the affected area 3-4 times daily until healed.
*Supplement*: Wrap cooked Artemisia argyi (Aiye, 艾叶) tightly into a ball, then wrap in silk and insert into the vagina.
[Injury from Foreign Objects during Intercourse]
[Xue Ji] Treat a woman who experienced bleeding and pain after intercourse, accompanied by fever, thirst, and nausea. Previous use of cold-natured medicines exacerbated the symptoms, causing frequent vomiting, poor appetite, and emaciation. I stated: The syndrome belongs to Liver Fire, aggravated by medicines injuring the Spleen-Stomach. First, use Liu Junzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) plus Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi, 山栀) and Radix Bupleuri (Chaihu, 柴胡). Once the Spleen and Stomach function recovered, all symptoms resolved. Then, use Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) to restore physique and Qi.
One woman suffered from vulvar swelling and prolapse, stifling pain with discharge, chest and abdominal discomfort, frequent urination, internal heat, afternoon tidal fever, bitter taste, and tinnitus. This was a Liver-Spleen Fire syndrome. She was treated with Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) plus Radix Alismatis (Qiancao, 车前子), Radix Gentianae (Dancao, 胆草), Poria (Fuling, 茯苓), Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Baizhu, 白术), and Radix Bupleuri (Shengma, 升麻). After two doses, she improved slightly. Then, Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) plus Radix Bupleuri (Shengma, 升麻) was used for several doses, leading to gradual recovery. Finally, Jiawei Guipi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction) plus Radix Bupleuri (Shengma, 升麻) and Radix Bupleuri (Chaihu, 柴胡), along with Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) plus Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi, 山栀), were administered for several doses, resulting in immediate cure. Maintenance therapy with Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) and Jiawei Guipi Tang (Modified Restore the Spleen Decoction) ensured full recovery.
One woman suffered from the aforementioned syndrome with heat and pain. The use of cold-natured detoxifying medicines damaged her digestion, causing inability to eat, frequent nausea, and heavy bearing-down sensation in the lower abdomen. I reasoned this was further damage to the Spleen-Stomach and sinking of Yuan Qi. First, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) plus processed Zingiberis Rhizoma (Paojiang, 炮姜) for two doses, resolving the bearing-down sensation. Then, add Poria (Fuling, 茯苓) and Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia, 半夏) for over twenty doses, achieving cure. Finally, Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) with minor additions of Radix Bupleuri (Chaihu, 柴胡) and Radix Bupleuri (Shengma, 升麻), combined with Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia), restored health.
*Jiyan Fang* treats women injured during intercourse, improper sexual conduct, or injury from foreign objects, resulting in continuous profuse bleeding.
Apply soot from the bottom of a cauldron (Fudi Mo, 釜底墨) and cut gourd flesh as medicine and insert.
Another formula for young girls injured during intercourse, improper sexual conduct, with continuous bleeding:
Burn hair and powder of blue cloth, apply as powder.
Another Formula: Apply blood from a rooster’s comb.
*Supplement*: Apply powder of Halloysit Rubra (Chishizhi, 赤石脂). Another formula suggests using powder of Galae Cinnamomi (Wubeizi, 五倍子), which is also effective.
[Headache Injured by Husband]
[Xue Ji] Primarily use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) and Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) to nourish the source of transformation.
*Jiyan Fang* treats women injured by intercourse, suffering from heavy limbs and headache upon respiration.
Radix Rehmanniae Recens (Shengdihuang, 生地黄) (8 liang), Radix Paeoniae Alba (Shaoyao, 芍药) (5 liang), Fermented Soybean (Xiangchi, 香豉) (1 sheng), Scallion White (Congbai, 葱白) (1 jin), Ginger Root (Shengjiang, 生姜) (4 liang), Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 甘草) (2 liang).
Boil the above six ingredients in 7 sheng of water to obtain 2.5 sheng. Divide into three doses. Do not re-boil. Avoid sexual intercourse.
*Qianjin Yi Fang* treats various women injured by intercourse, suffering from severe headache, nausea, and oppression. Sangbaipi Tang (Mulberry Bark Decoction).
Cortex Mori (Sangbaipi, 桑白皮) (0.5 liang), Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (Ganjiang, 干姜) (1 qian), Cortex Cinnamomi (Guixin, 桂心) (5 cun), Fructus Jujubae (Dazao, 大枣) (20 pieces).
Chop the above four ingredients. Boil in 1 dou of wine for three to four boils. Strain and take warm in divided doses. Dress appropriately to avoid sweating.
*Supplement*: Ju Fang Laifu Dan (Local Bureau Laifu Pill) treats women injured by intercourse with men, resulting in heavy limbs, headache, and dizziness. Take 50 pills swallowed with rice drink.
