If excessive blood loss occurs, or after the ulceration and suppuration of a wound, if the pulse is large and forceful on the superficial level but empty upon pressure, and completely weak when pressed deeply, this indicates deficiency-heat due to Yin deficiency; use Danggui Buxue Tang (Dong Quai Tonify Qi and Blood Decoction). If the pulse is deep and faint, soft and weak upon pressure, this indicates restlessness caused by excess Yin cold; use Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) with Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) and Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root). If fever and irritability occur, accompanied by muscle twitching and tendon tremors, this is due to loss of blood; use Shengyu Tang (Sage Renewal Decoction). If sweating does not stop, this is blood collapse; use Dushen Tang (Single Ginseng Decoction). If the pulse is full and forceful in cases of blood collapse, or if the pulse becomes restless after sweating, the condition is difficult to treat; if the pulse is fine and small, it is easy to treat. *Waitai Miyao* (Essential Prescriptions from the Imperial Library) states: Restlessness caused by excess Yin cold, where the patient desires to sit in a well for cooling, should be treated with Fuzi Sini Tang (Aconite Reverse Cold Decoction) plus Congbai (Scallion White). Master Wang Taipu (Wang Bing) stated: Whenever heat comes and goes irregularly, appearing during the day and hiding at night, or appearing at night and hiding during the day, moving unpredictably, this is called "no fire"; this is deficient fire without roots. Scholar Yang suffered an injury to his finger, experiencing pain and fever. After taking cold-natured medicines, his appetite suddenly decreased, and the affected area failed to suppurate. Xue Ji used herbs to support the interior and nourish blood; his appetite returned, and the sore opened. Later, due to overexertion, he experienced daily afternoon fever, indicating internal heat due to Yin deficiency. He used Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) combined with Ruan Chaihu (Soft Bupleurum Root) and Digupi (Cortex Lycii), which resolved the fever; subsequently, using herbs to nourish blood and benefit Qi allowed the sore to heal. A man fell from a horse, resulting in blood stasis in the abdomen. After taking purgative medicines, he developed fever, night sweats, and spontaneous sweating, with a floating and choppy pulse. Xue Ji believed this was caused by heavy purgatives excessively damaging Qi and Blood. He administered Shiquan Dabu Tang (Complete Great Tonifying Decoction), but the condition worsened, and he occasionally spoke deliriously; this was due to the medicinal power not yet reaching the disease site. Adding Paofuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, 5 fen) to the previous prescription allowed him to sleep immediately; upon waking, he felt instantly relieved, and after two more doses, he recovered. Scholar Yu Shizheng suffered a metallic wound with persistent bleeding, aversion to cold, and fever. His condition worsened after using Baidu San (Resolve Toxin Powder); this was because excessive blood loss left Qi without attachment. Thus, he was treated with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) plus Huangbai (Cortex Phellodendri), Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), Ruan Chaihu (Soft Bupleurum Root), Xuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae), Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae), and Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis), leading to immediate recovery. A seventeen-year-old woman sprained her right arm, causing slight swelling and pain, with fever occurring at Yin and Shen hours (3–7 AM and 3–7 PM). Xue Ji diagnosed blood deficiency and hyperactive fire in the Gallbladder channel; indeed, her menstruation arrived early. Initially, she took Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) combined with Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) for four doses, resolving the fever. Then, Jiawei Siwu Tang (Modified Four Substances Decoction) was used with Xiangfu (Rhizoma Cyperi), Digupi (Cortex Lycii), Shanzhi (Fructus Gardeniae, each 5 fen), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis), and Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, each 3 fen). After more than twenty doses, the swelling subsided. Huanglian and Shanzhi were then removed, and after another fifty-plus doses, her menstruation became regular, and her Yuan Qi (Original Qi) was replenished.
