Huangqi Renshen Tang (Astragalus and Ginseng Decoction)
Huangqi (Astragalus Root) (1 qian, add 1 qian if spontaneous sweating is excessive), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, remove radix), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) (each 0.5 qian), Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome) (0.5 qian, 1 qian if no sweat), Jupi (Citrus Peel, do not remove white pith), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Danggui Shen (Angelica Sinensis Root body, washed in wine), Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber, remove heart) (each 0.2 qian), Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark, washed in wine), Shenqu (Medicated Leaven, stir-fried) (each 0.3 qian), Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome) (0.6 fen), Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry) (9 grains).

If shortness of breath, lack of spirit, and fatigue in dreams occur, add Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry) 9 grains. If stool is constipated, not passing for 1-2 days, leading to poor appetite and inability to eat, this is due to latent fire in blood failing to moisten. Add Danggui Shen (Angelica Sinensis Root body) and Shengdi Huang (Rehmannia Root) each 0.5 qian, Tao Ren (Peach Seed) 3 grains (remove skin and tip, grind separately), Maziren (Hemp Seed) ground into paste 0.5 qian. If bowel movement becomes smooth, stop adding these medicines. If bowel movement remains unsmooth, do not use other medicines, add slight amount of Huanglian (Rhubarb Root, baked) 0.5 qian. If still unsmooth, it is not blood accumulation or blood constipation blocking flow. This is heat generating wind, the patient must manifest wind symptoms, do not add blood-invigorating medicines alone, only continue taking Huangqi Renshen Tang, using Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome) half liang, Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root) half liang. These two ingredients decoct in four zhan of water to one zhan, strain, take on empty stomach, bowel movement will surely pass significantly, stop after one dose. If chest Qi stagnation, add Qingpi (Green Citrus Peel), double the Chenpi (Citrus Peel, remove white pith) to expel evil Qi. This disease originates from insufficient primal Qi, only tonify primal Qi, do not purge. If Qi stagnation is too severe, or tonification is excessive, or there is mental worry/stagnation/depression, add Muxiang (Vladimiria Root) 0.2-0.3 qian, Sharen (Amomum Fruit) 0.2-0.3 qian, Baidoukou Ren (White Cardamom Seed) 0.2 qian, decoct together with main medicines.
