Because when Spleen and Stomach are deficient, Lung is most susceptible to pathogens, so tonifying according to the season makes it easier to achieve efficacy), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, each 5 qian), Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 4 qian, do not remove the white pith), Fu Ling (Poria, contraindicated if urination is free and there is no thirst), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma, contraindicated if no stranguria), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, each 3 qian), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 qian).

Decoct until 1 cup remains, strain, and take warm. Take after breakfast and before lunch. Contraindications are as previously stated. The dose can be gradually increased to 5 qian. After taking the medicine, if urination is free but the condition worsens, diuresis is inappropriate; reduce the dosage of Fu Ling and Ze Xie. If appetite improves, avoid overeating in the first one or two days to prevent further injury to Stomach Qi, as the medicinal power is still shallow and Stomach Qi cannot yet transport and ascend effectively. Diet should be light and digestible, or delicious foods should be consumed to assist the medicinal power, helping to lift floating Qi and nourish Stomach Qi. Do not eat bland food, as it will damage the medicinal power and aid the sinking of pathogenic factors. Mild physical activity can be performed to facilitate the transport and ascent of Stomach Qi and medicinal power. Avoid excessive labor to prevent further Qi injury; keeping the Spleen and Stomach quiet is especially beneficial. If Stomach Qi is slightly strong, a small amount of fruit can be eaten to assist grain and medicinal power. The Classic says: "Five grains for nourishment, five fruits for assistance." (The phrase "contraindications as previously stated" refers to avoiding talking for one or two double-hours after taking the medicine, as well as alcohol, damp wheat, heavy spices, cold, steamed, cold-natured, and diuretic substances.)

If the pulse is wiry and rapid, Yang is trapped inside, moving from exterior to interior. Wiry with rapid indicates Wood ending in Wood. Tight with surging indicates Water ending in Fire.
