Fengliu Bark: Pungent in flavor, extremely hot in nature, and toxic. It primarily treats wind pathogens and pain from dental caries. It originates from Yuanzhou.
The *Tang Bencao* notes: The leaves resemble those of the locust tree (*Sophora japonica*), the stem is red, and the root is yellow. The fruit ripens in June, being green and slender. The bark of the stem is peeled for use. (This note was originally attached in the *Tang Bencao*)
Chen Cangqi stated that its nature is astringent. It stops watery diarrhea. Su Gong stated that it promotes the discharge of water to reduce edema; however, edema is not treated with astringent herbs, making Su's statement significantly erroneous. He also mentioned it is toxic, which further proves the error. Boiling with water to stop dysentery is most effective. The *Meishi Fang*: Treats heatstroke and burns/scalds, relieving external pain. Use the white inner bark of willow, burn it into powder, and apply externally. It is equally effective for treating burns from moxibustion, which is wonderful. The *Doumen Fang*: Treats Baihu Lijiefeng (a type of rheumatoid arthritis characterized by severe joint pain). If the condition persists for years and previous treatments have failed, causing unbearable pain, use borneol and musk in any amount, finely chop and dry them by roasting. Soak in wine and take regularly until intoxication, then the disease will heal. Currently, only willow bark parasitic on maple trees is suitable for use. Its leaves can also be used to neutralize arsenic trioxide powder, especially...
Huamu Bark: Bitter in flavor, cold in nature, and non-toxic. It primarily treats watery diarrhea and body itching caused by wind in the head. It grows in plains and lands and is found everywhere.
Fruit: Sour in flavor, cold in nature, and non-toxic. The juice, when taken orally, treats watery diarrhea; washing the head and cleaning sores and itching on the body. Also known as Yangshen, also known as Shuzha.
The *Tang Bencao* notes: It is a small tree growing 5-6 chi high. The leaves resemble those of the Chinese Toon (*Toona sinensis*), and the fruit resembles tiger claws, being as large as small crabapples (*Malus asiatica*), and red. It originates from Shen, An, and Sui prefectures in Shannan. (This note was originally attached in the *Tang Bencao*)
Chen Cangqi stated that Tao Hongjing annotated it under the pine section. Shuzha is also called Yangshen, which is Chi Zhao. Boiling the juice and washing it on lacquer dermatitis is effective. The *Erya* states: The fruit of the Oak (*Quercus*) is called Shen. There is a Shen grass that wraps its own ovary to form the fruit. Additionally, Zhaomu is also called Yangshen and Shuzha; this is merely a case of identical names. Shen resembles small dates but is red, and people eat it. It grows in highlands.
Huamu Bark: Bitter in flavor, neutral in nature, and non-toxic. It primarily treats various types of jaundice; drinking the decoction boiled at high concentration is beneficial. Wood that can serve as candles resembles mountain peach (*Prunus davidiana*); extracting the resin and burning it can dispel evil spirits. (Attached currently)
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully followed Chen Cangqi's statement: Jin Dynasty Zhongshuling Wang Xizhi's verified prescription for cold damage: Write the character "KT" in the middle, boil thickly, cool the juice, and drink. It primarily treats epidemic cold damage.
The *Lingyuan Fang*: Treats breast abscess (Ru Yong). When the carbuncle first develops with swelling, pain, induration, and impending suppuration, one dose can cure it. Take true Huapi from the north, administer one cunbi (a measure of volume) with unadulterated wine, lie down immediately after taking it, and upon waking, the illness will have healed.
The *Yanyi* states: Huamu bark, burned into black ash, combined with other herbs, treats lung wind toxicity. Also, select bark with uniform purple-black floral patterns to wrap saddles, bows, and stirrups.
