Shi Lin (Stone Strangury) refers to the condition where stones are discharged during urination. The Kidney governs water metabolism; when water condenses and solidifies, it transforms into stones, thus the Kidney is susceptible to invasion by sand and stones. If Kidney Qi is deficient, it is easily invaded by Heat pathogens. Accumulation of Heat leads to strangury. The manifestations include pain within the urethra during urination, inability to void urine suddenly and smoothly, pain radiating to the lower abdomen, urgency and fullness in the bladder interior, and the discharge of sand and stones through the urinary tract. In severe cases, obstruction causes intense pain, leading to fainting. For treatments involving decoctions, hot compresses, moxibustion, and acupuncture, there are separate specific formulas. Methods for tonification, nourishment, and Daoyin (guiding and pulling exercises) are attached hereafter.
The *Yangsheng Fang · Daoyin Fa* (Prescriptions for Nourishing Life · Guiding and Pulling Methods) states: Lie supine, place both hands on the knees, position the heels obliquely under the buttocks, inhale through the mouth, contract the abdomen to its utmost limit, exhale through the nose seven times. This practice eliminates Shi Lin and pain in the glans penis.
Qi Lin (Qi Strangury) is caused by Kidney deficiency combined with Heat in the Bladder, resulting in Qi distension. The Bladder and Kidney are exterior-interiorly related. When the Bladder has Heat, the pathogenic Heat flows into the Bao Palace (uterus/lower jiao), and excessive Heat generates excess patterns, causing the Bao Palace to retain Qi and become distended, leading to lower abdominal fullness. Due to Kidney deficiency's inability to control urination, strangury forms. Its manifestations include fullness in both the Bladder and lower abdomen, dysuria, and a constant sensation of incomplete emptying (post-void dribbling). It is also called Qi Long (Qi Retention). Upon palpation, if the Shaoyin pulse is rapid, men typically suffer from Qi Lin. For treatments involving decoctions, hot compresses, moxibustion, and acupuncture, there are separate specific formulas. Methods for tonification, nourishment, and Daoyin are attached hereafter.
The *Yangsheng Fang · Daoyin Fa* states: Spread the heels of both feet apart at the knees to eliminate Long (retention).
It also states: Lie supine, place both hands on the knees, position the heels under the buttocks, inhale through the mouth, contract the abdomen to its utmost limit, exhale through the nose seven times. This eliminates Qi Long, frequent urination, pain in the glans penis, dampness below the genitals, lower abdominal pain, and immobility of the knees.
Gao Lin (Paste Strangury) refers to the discharge of substance resembling paste or fat during urination, hence named Gao Lin, also known as Rou Lin (Flesh Strangury). This occurs because Kidney deficiency fails to control the essence/fluids, causing them to be discharged together with urine.
Lao Lin (Fatigue Strangury) refers to strangury generated by Heat arising from damage to Kidney Qi due to overwork. Kidney Qi connects to the external genitalia. Its manifestations include urine retention within the urethra, frequent urges to urinate without output, pain radiating to the lower abdomen, difficulty in urination, and onset triggered by fatigue.
Re Lin (Heat Strangury) is caused by Heat in the San Jiao (Triple Burner), where Heat struggles with the Kidney and flows into the Bao Palace, forming strangury. Its manifestations include red and dysuric urine. Some patients with pre-existing strangury may have an exacerbation due to Heat; if the Heat is severe, it may transform into hematuria. There are also cases where the urine resembles mung bean soup residue after voiding, with episodes occurring at specific times.
