Biexia (Soft Tissue Mass Shaped Like a Turtle) refers to a mass in the abdomen shaped like a turtle. It may arise from eating turtle meat followed by exposure to cold, leading to indigestion; or it may result from consuming various meats that undergo pathological changes due to cold. These conditions are caused by deficiency of Spleen and Stomach Qi, which fails to transform and transport food when confronted with cold pathogens. "Xia" implies "false," indicating that while the mass has a tangible form, its position is movable. In the past, a man and his servant both suffered from Biexia. The servant died first, and upon opening his abdomen, a live white turtle was found. A person riding a white horse came to see this turtle; the horse urinated on the turtle, causing it to retract its head and limbs immediately. Subsequently, the turtle was fed horse urine and dissolved into water. The owner of the turtle said, "My illness will be cured." He drank the liquid and indeed recovered as predicted.
The *Yangsheng Fang* states: Do not drink water from marshes in the sixth lunar month, as it may cause Biexia.
In individuals with weak Stomach Qi, eating raw fish may lead to invasion by cold pathogens, resulting in failure of digestion and the formation of Yuxia (Fish-shaped Mass). Upon palpation, a distinct mass resembling a fish can be felt. Alternatively, drinking water from ponds or lakes may lead to the accidental ingestion of small fish, which then grow within the body, forming a mass with a fish-like appearance.
The *Yangsheng Fang* states: Consuming dried meat made from red-eyed fish can generate Xia masses.
When snake meat is ingested but not digested, it may give rise to Shexia (Snake-shaped Mass) within the abdomen. Additionally, snake essence accidentally entering food or drink can also induce this disease. Symptoms include persistent hunger yet inability to swallow food, throat obstruction, and regurgitation of food after it reaches the chest. Palpation of the abdomen reveals a mass with a snake-like shape, hence the name Shexia.
An individual who constantly craves meat, eating it repeatedly, suffers from Rouxia (Meat-shaped Mass).
An alcoholic who consumes excessive amounts of alcohol but little grain food gradually becomes emaciated over time. As the condition progresses, they develop an intense craving for alcohol; without it, they vomit, sleep excessively, and lose their appetite. This is attributed to parasites in the Stomach, and is termed Jiuxia (Alcohol-shaped Mass).
An individual who eats well but does not defecate may initially feel no discomfort. However, over time, a movable mass forms in the abdomen, known as Guxia (Grain-shaped Mass).
If hair is accidentally ingested with food, it enters the abdomen and causes gradual emaciation. This disease presents no specific symptoms other than the history of ingesting hair, which serves as the diagnostic clue.
