The bladder (Baogong, uterus/bladder area) originally harbors cold pathogenic factors. Due to Qi deficiency during childbirth, the cold is activated; cold Qi enters the bladder, and due to weakness, it fails to control urination, resulting in frequent urination.
Childbirth damages Blood and Qi, causing them to become deficient. If accompanied by Heat, Heat combats with Blood; when Blood receives Heat, it flows and scatters, seeping into the bladder. Consequently, Blood exits with urine. This describes... [Note: The original text appears incomplete here].
Childbirth disturbs Blood and Qi, exhausting the Zang-Fu organs. When Blood injury has not yet recovered, if accompanied by Heat, Blood acts recklessly due to Heat. If the Large Intestine and Bladder (Baonang) are deficient, Blood seeps into them; thus, Blood exits along with stool and urine.
The Large Intestine and Small Intestine originally harbor Heat. During childbirth, both Blood and fluids descend together, causing a sudden depletion of Body Fluids. Since there was pre-existing Heat, and the functions of the intestines have not yet harmonized, this results in difficult, obstructed, and constipated defecation and urination.
The Stomach and Intestines originally harbor Heat. After childbirth, fluids and Blood descend together, leading to exhaustion and dryness of Body Fluids. The Stomach and Intestines become blocked and stagnant, with Heat knotting within them, resulting in constipation.
Childbirth disturbs Qi movement, causing Qi to rush against the bladder, leading to torsion and deviation of the bladder, preventing urination. In other cases, the Small Intestine originally harbors Heat; after childbirth, fluids and Blood descend, depleting Body Fluids, causing Heat to knot within the bladder, leading to urinary retention. However, in cases of bladder torsion, there is abdominal distension and fullness, urgent Qi sensation, and colicky pain. In cases of deficient Heat and depleted Body Fluids, the distension and urgency are less severe, but urination remains obstructed. Once Body Fluids regenerate and Qi harmonizes, urination becomes normal.
Childbirth leads to emptying of Body Fluids and deficiency of both Blood and Qi. If Heat pathogens lodge in the bladder and accumulate, it causes urinary obstruction, stagnation, and difficulty in voiding.
The Stomach is the sea of water and grain; the essence of water and grain transforms into Blood and Qi, which nourish and moisten the Zang-Fu organs. Childbirth injures and disturbs the Zang-Fu. If there is Blood deficiency with excessive Qi, Qi invades the Stomach and Intestines, causing dryness and stagnation. The Qi rebels upward, resulting in vomiting and inability to eat.
If the Lungs contract slight Cold, coughing ensues. Since the Lungs govern Qi, and Qi is deficient after childbirth, Wind-Cold injuring the Lungs leads to coughing.
In the four seasons, illness caused suddenly by abnormal climatic conditions is termed "Shi Qi" (Seasonal Pathogen). Postpartum body deficiency combined with injury from abnormal Heat pathogens results in postpartum Shi Qi Heat Disease.
Palpating the pulse as wiry and small: if the feet are warm, life is preserved; if the feet are cold, death occurs. For all Heat diseases, the pulse should be floating, slippery, and suspended/urgent; such a presentation is considered unfavorable. If the hands and feet should be warm but are instead cold, indicating Si Ni (Four Reversals/Cold Extremities), death is certain.
