A person suffering from a fracture due to a fall must have the broken bone aligned and set straight using fir wood or fir boards. It should be bound tightly with rope, ensuring it is not deviated, twisted, or bent, and then firmly wrapped with cloth to prevent any movement. One must never soften their resolve or loosen the fixation due to the patient's cries of pain, as this would cause further harm. Once properly stabilized, internal medication can be administered. If the skin is broken and bleeding occurs, external treatment is especially necessary. However, if only the bone is fractured internally while the external skin remains intact, external treatment is strictly not required; nevertheless, combining internal and external treatments is undoubtedly more effective. The principle of internal treatment must prioritize invigorating blood and removing stasis. If blood does not circulate, stasis cannot be removed; if stasis is not removed, the bone cannot knit together. The prescription used is Xugu Shen Dan (Continuing Bone Divine Elixir): Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 2 liang), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 5 qian), Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, 1 liang), Baiguiban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 1 liang, powdered), Danpi (Cortex Moutan, 3 qian), Xuduan (Radix Dipsaci, 3 qian), Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, 2 qian), Ruxiang (Olibanum, powdered, 2 qian), Moyao (Myrrha, powdered, 2 qian), Taoren (Semen Persicae, 30 pieces), Yangzhizhu (Daphne odora, 1 qian), Honghua (Flos Carthami, 2 qian), Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 1 liang). Decoct in water and take orally. After two doses, the blood stasis will dissipate, new blood will grow, and the bone will knit. Take another two doses, remove Dahuang, and take four more doses for complete recovery.
The method of external treatment must involve applying a plaster and sprinkling powdered medicine onto the injury site to allow penetration. The plaster is named Quantie Sheng Gao (Whole Body Divine Plaster): Danggui (2 liang), Shengdi (2 liang), Xuduan (1 liang), Niuxi (1 liang), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 5 qian), Diyu (Radix Sanguisorbae, 1 liang), Qiancao (Radix Rubiae Cordifoliae, 1 liang), Xiaoji (Herba Cirsii Japonici, 1 liang), Mugua (Fructus Chaenomelis, 1 liang), Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum, 3 qian), Renshen (Radix Ginseng, 1 liang), Zaojiao (Fructus Gleditsiae Sinensis, 2 qian), Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong, 1 liang), Liu Jinu (Herba Siegesbeckiae, 1 liang), Sangmuzhi (Ramulus Mori, 4 liang), Honghua (2 liang), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 1 liang), Huangqi (Radix Astragali, 1 liang), Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri, 3 qian), Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae, 3 qian). Use three jin of sesame oil, boil several times, filter through hemp cloth to remove dregs, and boil again until a drop forms a bead when tested in water. Add one jin four liang of Huangdan (Lithargyrum, washed with water) powder to form the plaster; do not make it too old/hard. Then use Ruxiang (3 qian), Moyao (3 qian), Ziran Tong (Calamites, soaked in vinegar and fired seven times, 3 qian), Huarui Shi (Floris Pyriti, 3 qian), Qilinjie (Dragon's Blood, 5 qian), Bala (Beeswax, 1 liang), Haipiaoxiao (Endoconcha Sepiae, 3 qian), grind into fine powder. While the plaster is still warm, add these powders, stir evenly with a mulberry stick, and store in a pottery vessel. When applying, spread approximately one liang of plaster. After applying the plaster, sprinkle the fine powder named Shengjin Dan (Victory Gold Elixir) on top: Shexiang (Moschus, 3 qian), Xuexie (Draco, 3 liang), Guduan Shi (Ferrum Praeparatum, 2 liang), Haipiaoxiao (1 liang), Ziran Tong mo (prepared as above, 1 qian), Ruxiang (1 liang), Moyao (1 liang), Huarui Shi (3 qian), Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum, 1 qian), Zhangnao (Camphora, 1 liang), Tougouzi (Tachyglossus aculeatus, 10 pieces), Dishī (dry, 1 qian), Tubie (dry, 1 qian), Renshen (1 liang), Xiangpi (Elephant Skin, 3 qian), Hupo (Electrum, 1 qian), Ercha (Catechu, 1 liang), Zi Shiy ing (Hematitum, 2 liang), Sanqi gen mo (Radix Notoginseng, 1 liang), Mu'er tan (Carbonized Auricularia, 1 liang), Sheng Gancao mo (Powdered Licorice Root, 5 qian). Mix evenly and store in a jar. For each plaster, use three qian of Shengjin Dan powder, sprinkle on the plaster, and apply. Generally, two plasters are not needed for setting bones; for severe cases, use two plasters. Both this plaster and powder are extremely miraculous and unique medicines. If the bone is not damaged, applying just one plaster is sufficient for recovery, without needing to add the Shengjin Dan powder.
The internal and external treatments of these three prescriptions possess indescribable wonders. Treating both internally and externally simultaneously yields results within a day or night. Those who possess these three prescriptions in the world need not worry about fractures being incurable.
When a person falls from a height to flat ground and becomes unconscious, people often attribute this to evil blood rushing to the heart. However, it is actually qi being obstructed by blood. Injuries from falling are mostly caused by blood stasis attacking the heart, but sudden falls may not necessarily disturb the heart spirit. Only those falling from heights experience shock and palpitations at the moment of losing footing, knowing they will likely die upon impact; thus, they carry a "death mindset" beforehand, unlike those who simply stumble where the heart spirit has no time to react. Consequently, qi and blood become disordered, often leading to coma that is incurable. The treatment method must dispel blood stasis while assisting with herbs that restore qi (revive consciousness/vitality), so that blood disperses easily and qi opens up. If one merely attacks the blood stasis, qi closure will not be relieved, yielding no benefit. The prescription used is Suqi Tang (Reviving Qi Decoction): Ruxiang mo (Olibanum, powdered, 1 qian), Moyao mo (Myrrha, powdered, 1 qian), Suzye (Perilla Leaf, 3 qian), Jingjie (Schizonepeta, 3 qian), Danggui (2 qian), Danpi (3 qian), Dahuang (1 qian), Taoren (14 grains), Yangzhizhu (0.5 qian), Shanyangxue mo (Goat Blood, powdered, 0.5 qian), Baishao (5 qian). Decoct in water. Take one dose mixed with appropriate medium to revive qi, a second dose to activate blood, and three doses for complete recovery.
This formula combines reviving qi and activating blood, hence its rapid efficacy. The brilliance of the formula lies in using Yangzhizhu combined with Suzye and Jingjie; since the qi is chaotic, using these herbs to guide the chaos allows blood to activate and qi to revive easily.
