For infants and young children, regardless of gender, select large, plump, and smooth-surfaced fruits of *Toosendan Fructus* (Chuan Lian Zi, 川楝子). For children aged one to three years, use seven fruits. Pound them thoroughly in a mortar. Add three bowls of water. Decoct the mixture in a new clay pot until concentrated. Pour the liquid into a basin. In a wind-shaded area, take a piece of thin cloth, dip it in the solution, and wipe the entire body from head to toe, ensuring no area is left untouched. Dry the cloth. Avoid exposure to wind for a moment. For children aged four to five years, use nine fruits with five bowls of water. For children aged six to seven years, use fifteen fruits with seven bowls of water. For children aged eight to ten years, use twenty fruits with nine bowls of water. For adolescents aged eleven to fifteen years, use thirty fruits with ten bowls of water. Decoct and apply as described above. When pounding the herbs, avoid using iron utensils. This washing not only helps to reduce the density of smallpox lesions but also prevents sores and boils. If you do not believe this, leave one spot on the hands or feet unwashed. If smallpox appears, it will likely cluster in that area. The washing must be performed during the fifth month, continuing until the eighth month. Choose days marked as "Chu" (Removal Days) in the lunar calendar. Wash seven times. This is truly a miraculous and efficacious prescription, tested repeatedly with consistent results.
Fan, a midwife from Kunshan, specialized in performing abortions. Within less than a year, all eleven members of her family suffered from strange ailments and died successively. Fan suddenly dreamed of four men dressed in blue robes holding a warrant stating they were there to arrest the chief offender of abortion. Subsequently, she fell ill, crying out day and night. She told her neighbors, "Today I realize that the sins of lust and killing are the heaviest. Female servants were forced by their masters to have sexual relations; hostesses, driven by jealousy, insisted on aborting pregnancies. Unmarried women and widows who lost their chastity and became pregnant, even nuns, were not exempt. Some came seeking help because they had too many children or faced difficult births. Driven by greed for money, I ended up taking many lives. What property did I actually gain? I created such evil karma for others. Those who used me either faced the extinction of their descendants or the decline of their families, receiving no good retribution. Only those who practiced kindness and did not employ me for such acts enjoyed wealth and prosperity. After my death, countless vengeful spirits will come to haunt me; it will be too late to repent." Having finished speaking, she died. This incident occurred in the early Shunzhi reign and is recorded in Yang Xueya's *Records of Hearing and Seeing*.
