(From *Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang*) Treats headache caused by wind-cold invasion, absence of sweating and nasal congestion, as well as cough due to wind-cold and epidemic diarrhea.
Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (five liang), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Bencao (Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle) (each one liang). Take four qian per dose, add Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) and Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), decoct and take. (Wang Haizang's formula for Shenzhu San: "Shenzhu contains Cangzhu, Gancao, Fangfeng; using Cong and Jiang to induce sweating replaces Mahuang; removing Cangzhu and Congbai, adding Baizhu is excellent for Taiyang disease with sweating." Yu Jiayan in *Yimen Falü* said: "This is Wang Haizang's favored prescription, likely because he did not want the unlearned to lightly use the heat-inducing properties of Mahuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction) and Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) to harm people." Wang Ang in *Yifang Jijie* said: "According to records, Shenzhu San and Baizhu Tang were created by Wang Haizang to replace Guizhi Tang and Mahuang Tang." However, this applies when the Wind pathogen is fierce in the Taiyin channel; relying on this mild formula seems secure. Yet, it is unknown that Ying-Wei disharmony cannot be replaced by formulas that harmonize the Spleen and Stomach; excess conditions in the Stomach cannot be treated with tonifying substances; alternating Phlegm-Fire of the Liver and Gallbladder, or the mutual shooting of Water and Fire in the Shaoyin, cannot be covered by drying agents. Prescribers should examine these points carefully.) *Jufang* Shenzhu San rhyme: "Shenzhu San contains Cangzhu, Qianghuo, Baizhi, Chuanxiong, Xixin, Gancao, and Cong, Jiang; each herb enters a specific meridian to dispel wind-dampness." (Taiyin uses Cangzhu, Shaoyin uses Xixin, Jueyin and Shaoyang use Chuanxiong, Taiyang uses Qianghuo and Bencao, Yangming uses Baizhi; each enters its respective meridian to dispel wind, induce sweating, and overcome dampness. Adding Jiang and Cong assists dispersion; using Gancao moderates the middle.) Wind-cold diarrhea is generally suitable for tasting. (Wind herbs ascend the clear yang, thus they can also treat diarrhea.)
(From *Weisheng Jiabao*) Treats all cases where wind-cold has just begun; all may take it.
Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (one liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (five qian), Danshi (Fermented Glycines Soja Semen) (fifty grains), Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (three slices), Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) (three cun), decoct in water.
(Ge Hong's *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*) Treats early stages of Shanghan (Cold Damage) where headache and body heat are first felt, and the pulse is洪 (Hong/Full); it should be taken immediately.
Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) (one handful), Shi (Fermented Glycines Soja Semen) (one sheng), decoct in water and take.
Shenbai San rhyme: "Shenbai San contains Baizhi, Gancao, Jiang, Congbai, and Shi; applicable to all wind-cold conditions." *Zhouhou* alone decocts Congbai and Shi (named Congchi Tang / Scallion and Soybean Fermented Decoction), which does not shy away from replacing the function of Mahuang. (Congbai promotes Yang and induces sweating; Shi promotes ascending and induces sweating. When the pathogen is initially at the exterior, it is appropriate to take this first to disperse it, serving as a substitute for Mahuang. *Weisheng Jia...)
