Treats Hongxiangjiao (Hongxiangjiao: a condition characterized by damp-toxin accumulation in the lower limbs, potentially ascending to affect the heart) attacking the heart.
Fanshi (Alum, 2 liang).
Take the above single herb. Use 1 dou 5 sheng of Jiangshui (fermented grain water), boil for three to five boils. Soak the feet; this is excellent.
The song says: For Hongxiangjiao attacking the heart, use Fanshi Tang; boiling with Jiangshui and soaking is beneficial. It collects dampness, resolves toxin, and clears heat, complementing the external methods manifested in the *Ling Shu*.
You Zaijing said: The disease of Hongxiangjiao involves dampness injuring the lower part while Qi rushes upward. Fanshi is sour, astringent, and dry in nature; it can repel water, collect dampness, and resolve toxins. When toxins are resolved and dampness collected...
Treats Zhongfeng Fei (Zhongfeng Fei: stroke resulting in limb flaccidity or paralysis), where the body cannot hold itself, the mouth cannot speak, there is mental confusion without awareness of pain locations, or stiffness preventing turning over.
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 3 liang); Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (1 liang 5 qian); Xingren (Prunus Armeniacae Semen) (40 seeds).
Take the above nine herbs. Use 1 dou of water, decoct to obtain 4 sheng. Take 1 sheng warm. It should induce slight sweating. Cover the spine thinly, sit leaning on a table. If sweat appears, the patient recovers. If no sweat, take more.
The song says: Ginger, Angelica, Ginseng, Cinnamon Twig, Licorice, Gypsum, Ephedra; each 3 liang, do not err in measurement. Forty Prunus Seeds and half a liang of Chuanxiong; the Ancient and Modern Verified Formula primarily treats Wind pathogen.
Yuan Xi notes: Wind is a Yang pathogen, its Qi connects to the Liver. Fei refers to blockage. Wind enters and blocks the hair follicles, obstructing the circulation of Ying and Wei. Generally, Wind often carries Cold, entering from the skin and gradually penetrating inward. After long stagnation, it transforms into Heat. Heat injures Yin. Injury to Yin means internally there is insufficient nourishment for the Zang-Fu organs, and externally the body form cannot be filled. This is the origin of the inability to control the body, inability to speak, and mental confusion without knowing pain locations. The main formula uses Gancao in the Ancient and Modern Verified Xu Ming Tang to disperse Wind pathogens from the muscle surface and simultaneously regulate internal accumulated Heat. Furthermore, it uses Renshen, Danggui, and Chuanxiong to tonify Blood and regulate Qi, leading Mahuang and Shigao etc. to penetrate bones and sinews, unblock meridians, harmonize Ying and Wei, and expel pathogens from the muscle surface. Thus, this formula moves from interior to exterior, circulating throughout the body, driving out pathogens and opening blockages, reaching everywhere. It is called the Ancient and Modern Verified Xu Ming Tang; is its naming trivial?
