When a person is beaten, the left chest is called Qi Gate (Qimen), the right hypochondrium is called Blood Sea (Xuehai), the left hypochondrium is called Food Viscera (Shifu), the center of the chest is called Longtan Acupoint (Longtan Xue), and the spinal column on the back is called Haidi Acupoint (Haidi Xue). Injury to the left breast causes coughing, while injury to the right breast causes hiccups. These acupoints in the upper body are all critical vital areas. For injuries caused by kicking, beating, falling, or colliding, injuries to the upper part of men are easier to treat, while injuries to the lower part are difficult to cure, because men's Qi ascends. Injuries to the lower part of women are easier to treat, while injuries to the upper part are difficult to cure, because women's Blood descends. One must examine which part is injured, assess the severity, and determine whether the injury is recent or old. Men's Qi circulates from the left, and the left belongs to Yang; Women's Blood circulates from the right, and the right belongs to Yin; one must distinguish the movement of Qi and Blood. Since this condition involves the Zang-Fu organs and meridians, one must also verify the speed of vitality recovery. If it can be universally effective and revive the dying, it should be treasured. Injury to the whole body leads to rapid death, injury to the shoulders and back leads to slower death. Injury to the left side causes shortness of breath, yellowish complexion, and edema; injury to the right side causes Qi deficiency, pale complexion, and blood deficiency. Injury to the back affects the five Zang organs which are connected to the back; although critical, death is delayed, with danger appearing after 100 days; taking medicinal wine is advisable. Injury to the chest, where Qi and Blood stagnate heavily, inevitably causes coughing, chest distension and confusion, blackened complexion, and fever, leading to death within three to four days. Take Qili San (Seven-Centigram Powder), followed by Xingqi Huoxue Tang (Qi-Regulating and Blood-Invigorating Decoction) for recovery. Liver injury manifests as reddish-purple complexion, red eyes, and fever, leading to death within seven days. First take Liqi Yin (Qi-Regulating Drink), then Xiao Xuming Tang (Minor Xuming Decoction), and finally Hezhong Wan (Middle-Harmonizing Pill). Heart area injury presents with bluish complexion, shortness of breath, hemoptysis, severe pain upon breathing, and immobility, leading to death within seven days. First take Liqi Yin, then Da Xuming Tang (Major Xuming Decoction), and finally Hezhong Wan. Stomach (Food Belly) injury causes paroxysmal epigastric pain, fever, abdominal distension like a drum skin, anorexia, shortness of breath, fever, closed eyes, bad breath, and dark complexion, leading to death within seven days. First take Da Xuming Tang, then Hezhong Wan. Ear injury (Dragon Ear) shows blackening at body angles, puffy white face, expression resembling crying, and bow-shaped swelling, leading to death within half a month. First take Tongsheng Yin (Universal-Salvation Drink), then Liqi Yin, and finally Hezhong Wan. Small intestine injury causes urinary retention and pain, fever, dry mouth, facial edema, shortness of breath, intermittent pain, and sour water in the mouth, leading to death within three days. First take Liqi Yin, then Da Xuming Tang, and finally Hezhong Wan. Large intestine injury presents with bright red blood after defecation, urgency, astringency, and flushed face, leading to death within half a month. First take Liqi Yin, then Xuming Tang, and finally Hezhong Wan. Bladder injury causes painful and difficult urination, frequent dribbling, abdominal distension, and fever, leading to death within five days. First take Xuming Tang, then Xingqi Huoxue Tang. Scrotum or vulva injury results in discharge of bloody urine, extreme swelling and pain, mental confusion and restlessness, leading to death within one day. First take Huxin Yangyuan Tang (Heart-Protecting and Origin-Nourishing Decoction), then Da Xuming Tang. Simultaneous chest and back injury presents with pale, emaciated appearance, anorexia, fever, and cough, leading to death within half a month. First take Liqi Yin, and take more Hezhong Wan. Qi Eye injury causes severe asthma and pain, night sweats, emaciation, anorexia, and restless swelling and pain, leading to death within six days. First take Liqi Yin, then Hezhong Wan. Blood Sea injury involves excessive bleeding, vomiting blood, chest stiffness and pain. First drink Huoxue Tang (Blood-Invigorating Decoction), then Liqi Yin, and finally take customized powdered medicine. If bleeding does not stop, death occurs within one day. Bilateral hypochondrium injury causes severe asthma and pain, stabbing pain during sleep, pale complexion, and Qi deficiency. First drink Xingqi Huoxue Tang, then take Xuming Tang. If untreatable, death occurs within three days. Hypochondriac pain is due to excess Liver Fire and vigorous Qi and Fire. It may also be caused by phlegm-heat, food stagnation, or flowing pathogenic factors. It may result from falls causing blood stasis. It may arise from overindulgence in alcohol, food, or sexual activity leading to Spleen Earth deficiency, allowing Liver Wood to invade the Spleen position, causing epigastric pain radiating to both hypochondria. Fever with hypochondriac pain due to Cold Damage involves the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian and Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian, treated with Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction). Left hypochondriac pain relates to Qi and Fire; right hypochondriac pain relates to Phlegm and Fire. Blood stasis pain presents with redness, swelling, elevation, and slight whiteness at the injury site, accompanied by chills, fever, and pain often due to Qi deficiency. Dark, thin individuals with chills, fever, pain, and irritability likely have blood stasis. If there is no lower back pain but pain is lighter during the day and heavier at night, it is due to stagnant blood stasis. For bilateral hypochondrium injuries from kicks or falls, specific meridian-guiding medicines are used. These guiding medicines must be selected carefully: for upper body injuries, use Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong); for hand injuries, Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi); for back injuries, Angelica Dahurica Root (Baizhi); for chest/abdomen injuries, White Peony Root (Baishao); for below navel injuries, Phellodendron Bark (Huangbai); for left hypochondrium, Green Tangerine Peel (Qingpi); for right hypochondrium, Bupleurum Root (Chaihu); add Eucommia Bark (Duzhong) for waist; for lower body, Achyranthes Root (Niuxi). For foot injuries, Papaya Fruit (Mugua); for whole body, Notopterygium Rhizome (Qianghuo); add Cyperus Rhizome (Xiangfu) for women. Decoction methods should also be adjusted according to symptoms, and preparation must be precise. For severe injuries from beating or kicking, even expert physicians should not administer medicine immediately. If the patient refuses to open their mouth, blow powder of Black Soybean Seed Coat (Yazao) into the nose to induce sneezing and wakefulness, then administer hot decocted juice of Chinese Chive Root (Jiucai Gen) mixed with children's urine (Tongbian). If unable to swallow, it is a difficult case. If swallowing occurs and blood clots are vomited, assess severity, immediately take Duoming Dan (Life-Restoring Pill), follow with Shufeng Liqi Tang (Wind-Dispersing and Qi-Regulating Decoction), apply external Diaoshang Dan (Hanging-Injury Powder), and for severe cases, use charcoal fire therapy, followed by Jiegu Zijin Dan (Bone-Setting Purple-Gold Pill). If pain is manageable, continue treatment, adjusting formulas based on symptoms as appropriate.
