(There are twenty-six acupoints in total on both the left and right sides.)
1. Jianjing (GB21, Shoulder Well): Two points located in the depression on the shoulder, above Quepen (ST12, Supraclavicular Fossa), one and a half cun anterior to the prominent bone. To locate, press with three fingers; the point is where the middle finger falls into the depression. Also known as Pojiang. It is the meeting point of the Hand-Shaoyang (Sanjiao) and Foot-Shaoyang (Gallbladder) meridians, and the Yangwei Vessel. It treats five exhaustions and seven injuries, inability to look back due to neck stiffness, pain between the back and shoulders, inability to raise hands to the head, pain in the waist and hips caused by falls or trauma, and upward attack of Hongxiangjiao (podagra/foot swelling). The *Jia Yi Jing* states: "Needling depth should only be five fen." This point is also a meeting point of the Foot-Yangming (Stomach) meridian, connecting to the qi of the five zang organs. If needled too deeply, it may cause fainting and loss of consciousness. In such cases, immediately needle Zusanli (ST36, Three Mile) to descend the qi, applying tonification first followed by sedation, and recovery will occur shortly. Whenever needling Jianjing, one must always use Zusanli to guide the qi downward. For women experiencing cold extremities and reversal after abortion, needling Jianjing brings immediate cure. Moxibustion is superior to needling here; apply seven moxa cones.
2. Tianding (SI16, Heavenly Tripod): Two points located in the center of the shoulder Quepen depression, in the central depression at the junction of the clavicle. It is the meeting point of the Hand-Shaoyang (Sanjiao) meridian and the Yangwei Vessel. It treats shoulder and elbow pain radiating to the stiff neck, alternating chills and fever, pain in the Quepen region, absence of sweating, and chest fullness with irritability. Needling depth is eight fen; moxibustion of three cones is applicable.
3. Jugu (SI13, Giant Bone): Two points located at the shoulder end, in the depression between the two diverging bones upwards. It is the meeting point of the Hand-Yangming (Large Intestine) meridian and the Qiao Mai (Thrusting Vessels). It treats back and shoulder pain, blood stasis in the chest, and shoulder/arm inability to flex or extend accompanied by pain. Apply five moxa cones; needling depth is one cun.
4. Yunmen (LU2, Cloud Gate): Two points, also named Yunmen. Located at the anterior edge of the shoulder, three cun from the shoulder head. It is the Luo-Connecting point of the Hand-Yangming (Large Intestine) meridian. It treats goiter and tumors of the neck, arm pain with inability to lift, and painful Qi swelling. Needling depth is seven fen; retain the needle for ten breaths. Upon obtaining Deqi (arrival of qi), apply sedation method. Moxibustion of seven cones is applicable.
5. Jianyu (LI15, Shoulder Yu): Two points located between the two bones at the shoulder end, in the deep depression. Locate by raising the arm. It is the meeting point of the Hand-Yangming (Large Intestine) meridian and the Qiao Mai. It treats hemiplegia due to wind-stroke, half-body paralysis, wind-heat urticaria, arm spasm and contracture, inability to grasp objects, inability to draw a bow, thin arms with weakness, and soreness/pain of sinews and bones. Moxibustion ranges from seven to fourteen cones, stopping when the condition resolves. For treating hemiplegia, stop after forty-nine cones (seven times seven); excessive moxibustion may cause further thinning of the arm. However, if chronic wind-disease causes sinew/bone weakness unresponsive to other treatments, moxibustion is indicated regardless of potential arm thinning. Needling drains heat from the shoulder and arm. Example: Tudiqinruo of the Tang Dynasty suffered from wind-bi with inability to extend his arm. Physician Zhen Quan needled his Jianyu points, instructed him to shoot arrows at a target, and he recovered fully.
6. Jianliao (TE14, Shoulder Liao): Two points located in the depression above the Jianyu bone at the shoulder end. Locate by raising the arm. It treats heavy sensation in the shoulder and inability to lift the arm and elbow. Moxibustion of three cones is applicable; needling depth is seven fen.
7. Jianzhen (SI9, Shoulder Integrity): Two points located in the gap between the two bones below the axillary fold of the shoulder blade, in the depression posterior to Jianliao. It treats wind-bi, inability to raise the arm, and hot pain in the shoulder. Needling depth is five fen.
8. Naoshu (SI14, Upper Arm Shu): Two points located posterior to Jianliao, in the depression below the large bone and at the upper edge of the scapula. It is the meeting point of the Hand-Taiyang (Small Intestine) and Foot-Taiyang (Bladder) meridians, the Yangwei Vessel, and the Qiao Mai. It treats chills and fever, scapular pain radiating to the shoulder blade, and arm soreness with weakness. Needling depth is eight fen; moxibustion of three cones is applicable.
9. Tianzong (SI11, Heavenly Palace): Two points located posterior to Bingfeng, in the depression below the large bone. It is where the qi of the Hand-Taiyang (Small Intestine) meridian emerges. It treats scapular pain, pain along the lateral posterior aspect of the arm and elbow, and swelling of the cheek and jaw. Moxibustion of three cones is applicable; needling depth is five fen; retain the needle for six breaths.
10. Bingfeng (SI12, Holding Wind): Two points located posterior to the small bone on the shoulder, with a space appearing when the arm is raised. It is the meeting point of the Hand-Taiyang, Hand-Yangming, Hand-Shaoyang, and Foot-Shaoyang meridians. It treats shoulder pain with inability to lift. Moxibustion of five cones is applicable; needling depth is five fen.
11. Qu Yuan (SI13 is Jugu, this refers to SI13's neighbor or specific local point often identified as SI13 or nearby, text says "Shoulder Central Curved Scapula Depression", likely referring to a local point or variant naming, strictly translating location): Two points located in the central depression of the curved scapula on the shoulder. Tenderness upon pressure. It treats shoulder pain, generalized bi-syndrome, Qi stagnation, and shoulder stiffness with painful oppression. Moxibustion of three cones is applicable; needling depth is five fen.
12. Jianwai Shu (SI14 is Naoshu, this text describes SJ14 or similar lateral point, specifically "Shoulder Outer Shu"): Two points located at the upper edge of the scapula, three cun from the spine, in the depression. It treats scapular pain with heat sensation and cold extending to the elbow. Moxibustion of three cones is applicable; needling depth is six fen.
13. Jianzhong Shu (SI15, Shoulder Middle Shu): Two points located at the medial edge of the scapula, two cun from the spine, in the depression. It treats chills and fever, blurred vision, cough with asthma, and hemoptysis. Needling depth is three fen; retain the needle for seven breaths; moxibustion of ten cones is applicable.
