Starting from age one and the tenth palace, the Human Spirit (Ren Shen) moves sequentially along the days. The method for checking the Sacral Spirit (Kao Shen) within the Jiazi cycle was established by Shennong. The life span of ordinary people circulates through the Nine Palaces.
If physicians are unaware of these various taboos and recklessly perform acupuncture or moxibustion in an attempt to seek auspiciousness and avoid misfortune, not only will they fail to cure the disease, but it may even lead to injury or death, causing significant harm. When encountering patients whose age coincides with a period of ill fortune, especially if their constitution is weak, treatment is extremely difficult. However, enlightened practitioners facing sudden acute illnesses have no leisure to select auspicious days and avoid taboos; thus, one should not rigidly adhere to these rules in such emergencies.
Regarding the above-mentioned taboos, only those taboo in the four seasons seem to align with the *Suwen* (Basic Questions). The origins of the others remain unknown as to when and by whom they were initiated. Concepts such as the "Sacral Spirit" (Kao Shen) and "Human Spirit" (Ren Shen) are indeed obscure and difficult to comprehend. This awaits explanation by those who truly understand.
