The *Neijing* (Inner Canon) states: For diseases of the twelve meridians, excess conditions are treated with draining methods, deficiency conditions with tonifying methods, heat conditions with rapid needling (quick insertion and withdrawal), and cold conditions with retention needling. If there is neither excess nor deficiency, treat by selecting points from the affected meridian itself.
It is also stated that Qi and Blood circulate in the body. The circulation begins at the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner), flows into the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian; then into the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian; then into the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian; then into the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian; then into the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian; then into the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian; then into the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian; then into the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian; then into the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao (Triple Burner) Meridian; then into the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian; finally into the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian; and the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian flows back into the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian, forming a circle without end, circulating continuously and irrigating each other.
It is further stated that "Ying-Sui" (Following and Opposing) manipulation involves understanding the flow of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi and the direction of the meridians, applying needle techniques either following or opposing the flow.
It is stated: Where Qi first emerges is the Jing-Well point; where it trickles is the Ying-Spring point; where it pours is the Shu-Stream point; where it travels is the Jing-River point; where it enters is the He-Sea point.
It is stated: Jing-Well points correspond to the East and Spring, the time when all things begin to grow, hence called "Well"; He-Sea points correspond to the North and Winter, when Yang Qi enters the Zang organs, hence called "Sea". (This refers to the beginning and end, with Jing-River and Shu-Stream points included within).
It is stated regarding all Jing-Well points... (text missing here). For diseases of the Fu organs, select the Yuan-Source points.
It is stated: Drain the South (Heart Fire), Tonify the North (Kidney Water). This book elaborates on the *Suwen* and *Nanjing*; astute practitioners may consider this superfluous. It is recorded here merely as a personal reminder.
**Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian** belongs to Xin Metal. It starts at Zhongfu (LU-1) and ends at Shaoshang (LU-11). It has abundant Qi and little Blood. Qi and Blood flow into this meridian during the Yin hour (03:00–05:00).
* **Shi-Dong Bing** (Diseases caused by pathogenic factors affecting Qi): Lung distension and fullness, bloating with wheezing and coughing, pain in the supraclavicular fossa. In severe cases, crossing both hands over the chest and experiencing visual disturbance, known as Bi-Vue (Arm Reversal).
* **Suo-Sheng Bing** (Diseases generated by pathogenic factors affecting Blood): Coughing with rebellious Qi, wheezing and panting, irritability, chest fullness, pain along the anterior medial aspect of the arm, and heat in the palm. In excess conditions, the Cun Kou pulse is larger than the Ren Ying pulse. In deficiency conditions, there is shortness of breath, changes in urine color, sudden incontinence, and the Cun Kou pulse is smaller than the Ren Ying pulse.
* **Tonification** (For deficiency): Use the Mao hour (05:00–07:00) to follow and assist the Qi. Select Taiyuan (LU-9) (located in the depression posterior to the wrist crease, a Jing-River point, Earth element; Earth generates Metal, making it the Mother point. The Classic states: Tonify the Mother for deficiency). Select Chize (LU-5) (located in the artery at the elbow crease, a He-Sea point).
**Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian** is Geng Metal. It starts at Shangyang (LI-1) and ends at Yingxiang (LI-18). It has abundant Qi and Blood. Qi and Blood flow into this meridian during the Mao hour (05:00–07:00).
* **Shi-Dong Bing**: Toothache and cheek swelling. This meridian governs Body Fluids (Jin).
* **Suo-Sheng Bing**: Yellow eyes, dry mouth, nasal congestion/epistaxis, throat obstruction, pain in the anterior shoulder, and inability to use the thumb and index finger. With excess Qi, there is heat and swelling along the meridian pathway. The Ren Ying pulse is three times larger than the Cun Kou pulse. In deficiency, there is chills that do not resolve, and the Ren Ying pulse is smaller than the Cun Kou pulse.
* **Tonification**: Use the Chen hour (07:00–09:00). Select Quchi (LI-11) (located in the depression between the lateral epicondyle and the olecranon when the elbow is flexed, a He-Sea point, Earth element; Earth generates Metal, the Mother point. Tonify the Mother for deficiency).
* **Drainage**: Use the Mao hour (05:00–07:00). Select Erjian (LI-2) (located in the medial depression proximal to the second metacarpophalangeal joint, an Ying-Spring point, Water element; Metal generates Water, the Child point. Drain the Child for excess).
**Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian** belongs to Wu Earth. It starts at Chengqi (ST-1) and ends at Lidui (ST-45). It has abundant Qi and Blood. Qi and Blood flow into this meridian during the Chen hour (07:00–09:00).
* **Shi-Dong Bing**: Chills and shivering, frequent stretching and yawning, dark complexion. Onset brings aversion to people and fire; hearing wood sounds causes fright and palpitations, leading to a desire to close doors and windows alone. Severe cases involve climbing high to sing and discarding clothes while running. Abdominal rumbling and distension, known as Ben Tun-Jue (Rebellious Qi Reversal). This meridian governs Blood.
* **Suo-Sheng Bing**: Manic malaria, warm pathogens, sweating, nasal congestion/epistaxis, oral herpes, throat obstruction, abdominal edema, knee and patella swelling, and pain along the chest, breast, Qichong, thigh, and Futu pathways. The Ren Ying pulse is three times larger than the Cun Kou pulse. With Qi deficiency, the anterior body feels cold and chills. Cold in the Stomach causes distension. The Ren Ying pulse is smaller than the Cun Kou pulse.
* **Tonification**: Use the Si hour (09:00–11:00). Select JieXi (ST-41) (located 1.5 cun posterior to Chongyang, in the depression above the ankle, a Jing-River point, Fire element; Fire generates Earth. The Classic states: Tonify the Mother for deficiency).
