(Yang, Yuqi Chuang [Fish-umbilicus Sore], Wo Chuang [Nest Sore], Gan Chuang [Malnutrition Sore])
For Ding Zhong (Ding Carbuncle), moxa the point five cun posterior to the transverse crease of the palm. For males, use the left hand; for females, the right hand. Seven moxibustion cones (Zhuang) will lead to recovery. This method has been proven effective previously. Although there are many moxibustion methods for treating Ding Zhong, this one is highly effective and unexpected. (Another method: Scrape the fungus from the tips of a thousand bamboo arrows to make moxa cones, apply fourteen cones on the Ding Zhong, which will eliminate it.)
Moxibustion methods for Ding Chuang (Ding Sore) are considered miraculous in *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold). Another method involves first puncturing the four sides of the Yuqi Chuang with a needle to create holes, then crushing white lettuce (Bai Ju) to extract juice and drip it into the sores; or puncturing the surrounding areas to let fluid out, then applying crushed fresh chestnut yellow paste. (Surround the sore with flour paste to prevent the medicine from leaking). From morning until noon, if the root is pulled out, some use the roots, stems, and leaves of Xuan Er Gen (Cocklebur Root) burned to ash, mixed with vinegar and rice water sediment into a mud-like paste for application. Change when dry, not exceeding ten applications, to pull out the root. (*Qianjin Fang* contains thousands of prescriptions for Ding Zhong, none superior to this.) Some use powder from the kernel of Zao Jia Zi (Soapberry Seed) applied topically, curing within five days. Some use dried excrement of Lontra chinensis (Chinese Otter) applied topically, which is very good; these can be verified. Daoists also used a method of covering dung beetles (Qiang Lang) on a tile plate placed over a small cup of thick rice water, heating them by fire until the insects died from heat and drinking the rice water. The white substance in their brains (absorbed essence of rice water) was taken, dried on new tiles, ground into powder, taken orally with two qian mixed in hot wine, and simultaneously applied sparingly to the sore for cure. Hu Qianmu suffered from this disease, pain like iron nails drilling, and recovered according to this treatment.
Xiao Hai (SI8) treats Yang Zhong (Carbuncle) accompanied by chills. Tai Chong (LR3) and Lin Qi (GB41) (see Axillary Swelling) treat Ma Dao Yang Liu (Scrofula/Chain Abscess). For all Wo Chuang (Nest Sores), moxa Qi Jian (Extra Point) on the big toe fourteen times (two sevens); moxa the tip of the big toe is also good. (*Qianjin Fang*)
When I was young, I developed a sore between the medial and lateral malleoli of the foot, deep and painful, classified as a Yin Zheng (Yin Syndrome) sore. Accidentally reading ancient Yin-Yang texts, I found a record of using green mulberry sap (Qing Sang Jiang) for treatment. It healed immediately. Later in Wulin (Hangzhou), a sore appeared above the medial malleolus, and another appeared a month later. I sent a servant to Jiangxia to obtain a small amount of Huang Sang Jiang (Yellow Mulberry Sap), enough for only one application. By the next morning, it had healed. Since then, I have often taught others to use it, and it has always been effective. My nephew had a sore on his leg that prevented walking; my younger brother took mulberry root, pounded it into a paste, and applied it, leading to recovery.
Generalized body pain and itching like insect bites; scratching causes skin peeling and formation of sores. Moxa Qu Chi (LI11) bilaterally, using the "Sui Nian Zhuang" method (number of cones equal to age), moxa upon onset. This is divine and excellent. (*Qianjin Fang*) All Ding Zhong, Tou Chuang (Head Sores), Yu Qi, and other sores, including all unnamed swellings, can be treated. (See Fa Bei). For sores that fail to heal for a long time, moa He Gu (LI4) seven times each side, up to forty-nine times (seven sevens), extremely effective. (Still take Nei Tuo San [Internal Support Powder].)
For Xiao'er Gan Shi Chuang (Pediatric Malnutrition Damp Sore), moxa seven cones on both sides of the spine at the fifteenth thoracic vertebra. If not cured, add seven more cones. (*Qianjin Fang*) For Ding Zhong on the left, moxa the left arm at the elbow flexion point. Measure three finger-widths outward from the patient's arm midpoint to moxa between the two tendons. Moxa from the non-painful area towards the painful area. If the swelling is on the right, moxa the right arm. Recovery occurs within three days. (*Qianjin Fang*)
