Whenever there is heaviness and pain in the lower back and legs, puncture Weizhong (BL40) to induce bleeding; even long-standing stubborn skin eruptions will be cured immediately. Secondly, it governs numbness from the lower waist down to the feet (as cited in *Qianjin Fang*).
A sensation of cold water on the lower back and legs (see section on Hernia). Chengshan (BL57) treats lower back and back pain, heavy feet, trembling inability to stand, Hongjiao (foot qi disease), and swelling below the knees. Shenmai (BL62) treats lower back pain preventing the body from rising, cold feet, inability to stand for long periods, and a sensation of rocking as if in a boat or carriage during sitting or lying. Kunlun (BL60) treats pain in the lower back and buttocks (*Qianjin* refers to heel pain), foot contracture, and inability to place the foot on the ground. Below Kunlun, it treats lower back pain, hemiplegia due to wind-stroke, heavy painful feet unable to touch the ground (from *Mingtang Jing*). Bladder Shu (BL28) treats numbness of the lower back and feet (see section on spine disorders). Pucan (BL61) treats lower back pain preventing the body from rising. Chengshan (BL57) treats heavy and flaccid feet (from *Xia Jing*). Diji (SP8) treats lower back pain preventing flexion and extension, bi-syndrome pain in the feet, and difficulty in bending and straightening. Fengshi (GB31) treats cold bi-syndrome, numbness in the calves, soreness and pain in the legs and knees, heaviness in the lower back and buttocks, and difficulty in rising and sitting. Chengshan (BL57) treats sore and painful feet, inability to stand for long periods, heaviness in the lower back and knees, difficulty in rising and sitting, tendon cramps, and inability to bend and straighten. Zhang Zhongwen treats heavy and painful lower back, inability to turn, difficulty in rising and sitting, and cold bi-syndrome causing leg tendon cramps and inability to bend and straighten. Moxibustion at Quchi (LI11) on both sides, the head left and right, and four points on the feet, three moxa cones at each point. When moxibusting one foot, apply two fire sources simultaneously; when the heat just reaches the flesh, initially feeling pain, have two people blow from both sides until the fire extinguishes. If moxibustion is performed at noon, by dusk, the patient moves their internal organs once or twice voluntarily, or feels the internal organs rotating with a sound like thunder, leading to immediate cure; this is miraculous. Shanglian (LI13) treats numbness of the lower back, legs, hands, and feet (see section on Wind-Stroke). Yangfu (GB38) treats a soft lower back as if sitting in water, swelling of the skin below the knees with tendon cramps, pain in all joints without fixed location, axillary swelling, scrofula (Ma Dao), throat obstruction, knee soreness, and wind-bi numbness. Yinjiao (RN7) treats lower back and knee contracture (see section on Hernia).
Beishen of Renshou Palace suffered from a foot ailment and, by imperial decree, was needled at Huantiao (GB30), Yanglingquan (GB34), Zusanli (ST36 - specifically Xiaguan/Juxia Lian), and Yangfu (GB38); she could walk immediately. Zhao Qing, Minister of Justice, suffered from wind-stroke with limb immobility and inability to kneel or rise; he was needled at Shanglian (LI13), Huantiao (GB30), Yanglingquan (GB34), and Zusanli (ST36 - specifically Xiaguan/Juxia Lian), two points each, and could immediately kneel and rise. This method treats cold bi-syndrome causing calf and knee pain, lower back and foot contracture, upward rushing of cold qi from the feet, inability to stand for long periods, heaviness in hands and feet, and daily emaciation; this is called Fuliann Bing, and it is suitable to moxa Xuanzhong (Guanyuan/Abegut). One application of moxa leads to cure (see *Qianjin Fang* section on Body Wet Bi-Syndrome).
*Qianjin Yi Fang*'s Wushen Tang primarily treats edema and immobility of the lower back, spine, knees, and feet (Poria, Dried Ginger, Alisma each 2 liang, Cinnamon Twig 3 liang, chopped; take 4-5 qian weight per dose, add 2 zhan of water, decoct to 0.8 zhan, take orally, 2-3 times daily). Thus, diseases of the lower back and legs should also involve herbal medicine and cannot rely solely on moxibustion.
